Catching the Bass in Alabama
It has only been a few years since I took upon fishing as a hobby. And to be honest, I'm pretty glad about my decision to do so. I live in Colorado, so there are plenty of fishing spots that helped me practice and develop my skills.
In a few months, a group of us are heading to Lake Guntersville in Alabama to get hold of one of the Bass. As per what I've heard, bass is easy to locate but difficult to catch. It's entirely different from catching the Trout in my region. So I'm pretty excited and looking forward to the trip.
Looking for some professional guidance that can help me prepare myself to catch the Bass during my visit to Alabama. Additionally, would love to get some suggestions on the specific tools that I would require as well.
With respect to the bass, fishing is altogether a different experience. It is extremely difficult to catch that fish, especially if it is your first time experience hunting for one.
When they are not active or waiting to ambush their prey, the bass hides under thick covers. It could be anything like rock, grass, lily pads, boat docks, etc., and that is where you must look, if you wish to add the bass in your kitty of catches. Additionally, a long rod, somewhere around 6 to 7 feet and a soft plastic bait would be the ideal items to go for.
Getting the right kind of bait is extremely important. Bass has a broad diet that includes Bluegill, Shad, and Minnows. So it is important to get the right food item to lure them in. In Alabama, Bass heavily feed on Bluegill and you can find small plastic bait shaped in that form to trap the fish.
Bass always swims with the current. So when in Alabama, keep your angle of attack with the wind blowing on your face. It will be tough to cast and hold your boat in position, but the wind together with the current will drive the fish closer to you.
Moreover, the surface of the water is also dispersed by the wind, so you don't have to worry about spooking the fish with the movement of your boat. Moreover, you don't need any specific tools when fishing for the Bass; a long fishing rod, fishing pliers, hook sharpeners, and other basic tools would do just fine.
Thank you George for your helpful suggestion. Hoping to get a good wind in Alabama during my time there. Will ensure to maintain a position in the direction of the wind.
Water temperature drastically affects the movement of the Bass and its feeding patterns. If the water is cold, throw in a slower moving bait in the water. If the water temperature is warm, then a more aggressive and faster lure would be a better option.
Thanks MathewJames. I totally agree to your suggestion on how the temperature of water affects the movement of the fish. Since I'll be visiting Alabama during summers, keeping in mind your suggestion, I'll use a faster moving bait.
Get yourself a guide the first couple days. You will learn what to fish with, where and when in thsf short time. It’s definetly the way to go.
The suggestion of getting a guide for the first day is the way to go. Offer the guide a bribe of $50 to $100 bucks if he can get you a 10 pounder. That way he will take you to his special holes not his tourist spots and he will use the best of his artificial baits. Watch and learn. Then mark your charts as soon as you get back to where you are staying before you forget. Now you know where to go in your boat. I like to set out a live bait and while it works it's thing I use my artificial baits.
Good luck.
its cold now crank baits and spinner baits are best. but new baits are made everyday. don;t get stuck on one lure. i caught a 12 pounder two months ago, and it was on top with a zora spook, with a rock in it, it was a old bait ,i caught so many on the lure ,the paint come off. so i drilled a hole and in goes the rock it was the 3rd cast,it dint even make splash just sucked it down.my buddy i have won a few hometown turnys with he screamed before i saw it and said moby dicks on your line.anyway try that lure its awsome. use walk the dog action. good luck to ya.
