My oldest brother and I use to hunt carp when the Columbia River in Oregon would flood up onto our lower pasture. In about 2 feet of water we'd sneak up on them and shoot them with an arrow tied to a light rope. We never ate them but talk about FUN!!

I too have had this same problem. And yes, it limits women's ability to fish those areas more remote.
I have a CCW and have found that when I make it obvious and visible most won't approach me.
But... I believe it's far more important to stay safe and try and find a friend, group or other to go with you. Better safe then sorry!
