Anyone know about the spring lake trout run? Timing, temps, what to throw, where to throw it. Any info is helpful! I know people like the causeway in Colchester.

Not opposed to targeting other species as well. Been having some decent luck with the bass this year and having a lot of fun with it so i’m just sticking with it for now.

Hi all,

I’ve been fishing around Champlain on the banks and a few other spots around the area for bass and pike. Anyone have any tips for this time of year as far as lures, presentations, or even spots to check out?

Started a new instagram account for my fishing adventures if anyone wants to follow and connect on there to talk about fishing, it’s @imgonnachum. Hope you’re all doing well and catching em!

Hey All,

Anyone know what day the salmon hole opens up? I’ve heard conflicting information and haven’t seen the info directly from fish and wildlife.

Thanks in advance!
George

Nice fish! I mainly fish for a cold water species but it's funny, right out of Burlington Bay my 13 yo Sun and I fell upon a little bit of a honey hole for bass in the fall not too far offshore except for the bass for 30 ft down suspended in about 60 for the water. He must have pulled up a dozen bass over 5 lb. He had some fun fights that's for sure. Ever since then it's hard to get him to go Salmon Fishing! Lol.

Curious, have you ventured into the Lake Champlain United forum? A lot of good information there probably a lot of the same anglers that are on this cool page.

And I'll throw this out there. You said you didn't have a boat. If you ever wanted to snag a ride and get out into the Open water I'm more than happy to always take on another passenger. By the looks of it, I'll probably benefit more from the trip and secrets on getting the big ones than anything else. Feel free to message me anytime. Another thing there is a small salmon tournament this weekend, just for bragging rights just call the draw your partner tournament for the lcu Forum AKA frostbite club. We do it annually for a good time and then some good eats afterwards. If you're interested check it out or you can message me back maybe you can jump on my boat and partner up with me and my kid or whatever good luck, welcome from Maine, unfortunately you probably didn't really experience much of a temperature increase or decrease! 😀
Stay Safe.

Best,
Ej

Can’t believe I missed this message till just now, thank you so much for the response. Would’ve loved to take part in that tournament, although I probably would’ve been dead weight! Never been out for salmon specifically, though I’d love to. Hope you did well.

Speaking of salmon, do you happen to know the exact day the salmon hole in Winooski is open? I’ve heard that it was supposed to open today, but also heard it opens June 1. Didn’t see the info posted online by fish and wildlife anywhere.

That secret spot sounds like a real good time! I’d love to get out there with you if you’ll be heading out one of these weekends. I’ll message you and shoot you my number/email. Appreciate the warm welcome Ej.

I cast small spoons like Kast masters and if you can find them gold and orange Fiord spoons. If trolling I vary colors on single hook spoons like silver or rainbow trout. Most sporting goods stores will advise on best colors.

Awesome thanks for the advice. Mostly been sticking to Champlain bank fishing as I can just ride my bike out a few miles to some awesome spots. Caught these on the causeway today.

The bridge or under it and on the causeway is a good spot for salmon in the Spring. Caught many there before I started boating for them.

What do you usually throw for the salmon in the area? I’ve tried a number of approaches but no luck.

Couple more the other day. This spot has some solid fish but the numbers are pretty low. After the first few fish it goes cold pretty quick no matter what I throw. Gotta start expanding my horizons a bit and maybe hit the banks over the causeway and around that area.

I’m somewhat familiar with the water in the Chittenden county area, but happy to learn anything at all. Thanks for the advice. Do you typically try to go fishing as soon as an area has been stocked?

Have any small lakes/streams you would recommend to a boatless fella?
