I'm new to this List, but been fishing all my life. Back in the day...I was a volunteer Deputy Game Warden in New Jersey/Mercer County. Even got to get out of high school classes once a week (in Spring time) to help stock trout. I was the guy who ran down the hills, banks with nets filled with fresh rainbows.

Now in Vermont and ready to start trolling for Salmon and Lake Trout. Anybody out there in Vermont?
Drop me a line...LOL

Speedy,
Here's a few links which may help get you started.

I cut my teeth on fishing NYS waters for 50 years, now a 20-year resident of warm Southern California. I fished Champlain only once. My recall, we rented a house boat for a few days chasing smallmouth and walleye, doing well. It was the last week of July or first week of August. I chose to jump in to cool off from the warm summer. Holy crap, I took one breath in and immediately returned to the boat ladder unable to exhale. That water was like ice, colder than I'd ever felt.
Don't forget the photos.

Thanks for the reply. I already belong to both the Lake Champlain and Lake Ontario Forums. Great guys but only fish in their lakes, not in-land. I have 15 deep water ice cold lakes filled and also stocked with Land-Locked Salmon and Lake Trout. Some of the lake are 375 ft deep. Today I am still in Tucson,AZ waiting for the month to click May 1st,then I'm gone to Vermont until the Fall. Done quite a lot of fishing here in AZ in smaller lakes. Rainbow Trout mostly. In AZ I use my 16 ft. Aluma Craft with a 10hp gas and a 24 volt Minnokota, fish finder, and caught a lot and release a lot.

In Vermont I have a 19ft. Sea Nymph with a canvas cabin, 90HP Merc and a 24 Volt Minnotoka, two fish finders, and a Fish Hawk detector. All nice toys but I would like to contact with someone who has been on the lakes themselves.

Tight Lines,
Speedy

I used to work on Fair Grounds rd in Hamilton. I fish Lake Champlain in the Keeler Bay and inland sea area. Flat line trolling for Salmon works well there after ice out and to the begining of May. If out there and see a grey and white Stratos 386 in the bay say hello. I come up from NJ at the end of April.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not going to fish Lake Champlain this year. I have 15 deep water, cold lakes loaded with Land-Locked Salmon and large Lake Trout. Maybe get over to Champlain next year and mes with the Burlington crowds etc. Thousands of boats...big lake..but if I'm alone and running two down riggers and planner boards I'd need eyes in the back of my head to watch out for personal water crafts, sail boats ,water skiers, etc. Have you ever fished any of the in-land lakes? Like Willoughby or Memphremagog? I know there are some good fisherman out there on those lakes but not on any forums so far. Beginning to feel like the Lone Ranger..LOL "Speedy"

Never fished the other lakes. I was lucky enough to buy a camp in South Hero many years ago. I put the boat in April and keep on my dock until about October.

Good timing. I'm flying back to Newport May 1st. My boat is in my garage. I'll be wet by the 5th.
Let you know ASAP.

Hey Speedy,

New to fishing in VT, but have lived here 10 years or so. My family have a place in Maine and that’s where I’ve grown up fishing my entire life. Spent a lot of my childhood growing up in Bermuda so did a fair bit of fishing there growing up. Excited for the water to start warming up for bass, but am also looking to see if I can’t get into any lake trout over by the causeway up north of Burlington.

The bridge or under it and on the causeway is a good spot for salmon in the Spring. Caught many there before I started boating for them.

I'm a stream and small lake fisherman from Bennington Vt. They have an awesome stocking program and put in a lot of 2 year old rainbows 18" or better along with your 12" pan size.
If your after lakers best bet is Lake Champlain. Awesome beauty of a lake with lots of different species of fish!
Good luck!

Have any small lakes/streams you would recommend to a boatless fella?

In Burlington? You can fish from shore on Lake Champlain and catch tons of yellow and white perch. Bass hang in the weeds.
I'm in Bennington southern Vermont. There are great streams to fish. Check the fish stocking schedule for your area to get a picture of what and where to fish. Good Luck!!

I’m somewhat familiar with the water in the Chittenden county area, but happy to learn anything at all. Thanks for the advice. Do you typically try to go fishing as soon as an area has been stocked?
