Caution. Your Vermont fishing license is not good/legal in Canadian waters. I double checked with VT Fish and Wildlife and was disappointed. The depth in US/Vt portion is mostly 25ft deep and very flat. Only two small deeper channels
Almost to Canadian border on left side. Drops to 30 to 36feet.

Took out my new boat second time and used one of my four down riggers. Electric Canon.
Was watching the bottom depth change every so often and would raise or lower the ball to keep it about 10 to 15 off the bottom. Did this several times during the day, then it happened. While bringing the ball up,it Free-wheeled. Up or down switch couldn't stop it. Killed the power, and brought in all my lines. Then leather gloved the spool rewinding over 125 ft. pof cable. Rats! What a Firedrill when alone.
Any of you ever experience a back lash on a rigget?

AZ issues a FREE Fishing & Hunting license for residents 70 and over. VT charges $60. Guess they are still tight, and need some of our Social security money.

Thanks guys. Zero for 11 tries with commercial boat/trailer companies. I power wire brushed it, printed gloss black, New wheels/,tires and LED lights. So I'm going to use it as is for this season and buy a new trailer next year. Speedy

Sounds good but I'm 3,000 miles away. LOL I think I might just install the new wheels and tires and keep it under 100 mph...Then keep an eye out for a super deal on a new trailer. Thanks again, Speedy

Well the Good news is that the official Mercury dealership did a complete Spring check-up/service and my 90 hp Merc and boat is ready to go fishing. My trailer...Not so much. I had just bought the boat/trailer last November, owned it for one week, and stored it in my garage in Vermont until last week. They spotted that the trailer has a bent axle. I thought that maybe the one tire was worn, so I bought two new wheels and tires and installed LED lights. Lipstick on a pig. LOL

SOS Anybody have a new or used axle or know where I can get one? The trailer is a 86' Yacht Club single axle, Model #1363715, carries a 19' v-bottom Sea Nymph Boat loaded with two motors and gear less than 2,000 lbs.

Something like buying a new ice cream sunday only to find out it's in a leaky dixie cup.
Thanks, Speedy

Welcome back...me too. I just moved to Newport November and bought a 19ft Sea Nymph all set up for trolling.
Had the same questions. Bottom line was all good brands of line work, and most of the guys were using 20/30 50lb backing and or for Main Line and then a 6-15ft Flour leader. Here's the catch...SEA FLEAS, Lake Champlain is loaded with those pesky sea fleas that attach to braid like quickly and coated/plug up your lines. They don't seem to stick to the fluro-carbon. So on two of my new Okuma "Cold water" trolling reels I filled them 100% with Fluro. Cost more ? Yes.Less grief? Yes. Also I'm told all the Great lakes are loaded with Sea Fleas also and the Lamprey eels.
I'm sticking to the in-land Vermont lakes that are free and clear of all that. I just want to go fishing and have fun without the BS. LOL
Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I'm not going to fish Lake Champlain this year. I have 15 deep water, cold lakes loaded with Land-Locked Salmon and large Lake Trout. Maybe get over to Champlain next year and mes with the Burlington crowds etc. Thousands of boats...big lake..but if I'm alone and running two down riggers and planner boards I'd need eyes in the back of my head to watch out for personal water crafts, sail boats ,water skiers, etc. Have you ever fished any of the in-land lakes? Like Willoughby or Memphremagog? I know there are some good fisherman out there on those lakes but not on any forums so far. Beginning to feel like the Lone Ranger..LOL "Speedy"

Thanks for the reply. I already belong to both the Lake Champlain and Lake Ontario Forums. Great guys but only fish in their lakes, not in-land. I have 15 deep water ice cold lakes filled and also stocked with Land-Locked Salmon and Lake Trout. Some of the lake are 375 ft deep. Today I am still in Tucson,AZ waiting for the month to click May 1st,then I'm gone to Vermont until the Fall. Done quite a lot of fishing here in AZ in smaller lakes. Rainbow Trout mostly. In AZ I use my 16 ft. Aluma Craft with a 10hp gas and a 24 volt Minnokota, fish finder, and caught a lot and release a lot.

In Vermont I have a 19ft. Sea Nymph with a canvas cabin, 90HP Merc and a 24 Volt Minnotoka, two fish finders, and a Fish Hawk detector. All nice toys but I would like to contact with someone who has been on the lakes themselves.

Speedy

I'm new to this List, but been fishing all my life. Back in the day...I was a volunteer Deputy Game Warden in New Jersey/Mercer County. Even got to get out of high school classes once a week (in Spring time) to help stock trout. I was the guy who ran down the hills, banks with nets filled with fresh rainbows.

Now in Vermont and ready to start trolling for Salmon and Lake Trout. Anybody out there in Vermont?
Drop me a line...LOL
