I’ve been fishing the ocean for the past few years and now am going back to lake Champlain. Kinda at a loss as to what to use for line for salmon/ lake trout/ walleye! There’s so many to choose from. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If I don’t fill my reel spool with fluorocarbon, I will make a leader from fluorocarbon. It doesn’t matter what brand or what I fish for. It normally gets me more bites. Welcome to the forum and good luck.

I now use 20# Suffex 832 in neon lime on both my freshwater and saltwater rigs. That applies to both casting and spinning reels. The lighter stuff just doesnt get along with my eyes and hands. It is strong enough to hold up against most fish I catch, easy to see, casts well and heavy enough to allow me to tie it with my old clumsy hands. I use it for panfish to king salmon. There are a few exceptions for heavier line, like pitching into weeds or ling and halibut fishing as well as sturgeon. I even use it now for stocked trout with a 5# leader.

I’ve been running a colorful braid ( so I can see it in the water) in 30 or 40 pound, and adding a 4 or 5’ fluorocarbon leader in 15 to 20pound. It seem to work pretty good to me.

Thank you for the response. I am thinking of trying 20lb braid that is high visibility.

Thanks for the input. That line was listed in the top 5 when I did a google search.

Welcome back...me too. I just moved to Newport November and bought a 19ft Sea Nymph all set up for trolling.
Had the same questions. Bottom line was all good brands of line work, and most of the guys were using 20/30 50lb backing and or for Main Line and then a 6-15ft Flour leader. Here's the catch...SEA FLEAS, Lake Champlain is loaded with those pesky sea fleas that attach to braid like quickly and coated/plug up your lines. They don't seem to stick to the fluro-carbon. So on two of my new Okuma "Cold water" trolling reels I filled them 100% with Fluro. Cost more ? Yes.Less grief? Yes. Also I'm told all the Great lakes are loaded with Sea Fleas also and the Lamprey eels.
I'm sticking to the in-land Vermont lakes that are free and clear of all that. I just want to go fishing and have fun without the BS. LOL
Good Luck
Speedy

Thanks for the info. I’ll try some of the fluorocarbon and see how bad it gets coated
