What killed all the weed beds CC and over What period of time? A buddy of mine from Jacksonville has said since the time he was a kid to now the Saint John's is so changed and not for the good.
Don’t know if you have a boat, but the sunshine skyway bridge starting now is an excellent place to catch tarpon. One way that it is done there, (and also at a Mont channel and right off of Being Pointe that channel there on the north end of Ana Maria Island) Those are regular areas to fish or tarpon mostly on an outgoing tide.
Back to the skyway bridge, I don’t recall now, if incoming or outgoing would be best however, if you set up with a large amount of cash netted white bait (scale, sardines) or greenbacks And start yourself a tram select by cutting them up into small pieces and dropping them off the transom of your boat. Then you would free line large green backs into that champs lake.
If you go to the fishing pier is at the skyway you may well see people using this technique or similar techniques off the peers them selves. I’ve never fish from the piers, but the boating method at the skyway is done all the time , as well as in those other two areas mention with a lot of success.
Jerry,
You been getting any pompano down your way?
Actually, I reread your post and saw you had a sliding sinker, so obviously not top water. What kind of lure exactly?
Sounds like a great day! And the pictures prove it.
That’s an impressive fish. I’m not intimately familiar with your Lure choices, but I take it you’re fishing topwater?
Gotcha. I am a native Floridian myself and fished your area up there around Homosassa a lot as a child and in the intervening decades. My suggestion would be to hire a local (second or third generation if you could find him or her) so obviously be targeting whatever they think the best bite is at that time, then you can ask them about all the seasonal variations of which they are many
Hi, Sheracraft,
I live in Tampa, but I’m pretty familiar with that area. Are you based more in Crystal River or actually in Ozello? Depending, I’d probably have different advice as for who you should ask up there
Hi Plumbob,
Thanks
From Tampa.
With this recent cold weather, does anyone know if the speckled perch are turned on again? I’m most interested in central Florida Lakes like Panasoffkee and perhaps down south towards Okeechobee. Thanks.
Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum. I’m an avid salt and freshwater fisherman, native Floridian, both inshore and offshore.
Look forward to participating.
