Any place you can get on the river around Tulsa...

Shrimp and night crawler's work better than most anything else you could try.

Grand River Dam? Pretty good. We caught 4 blue cat last week with a combined weight of 62 pounds.

We also caught a big stringer of sand bass and crappie that same morning.

One Summer, I took a week's vacation fishing on private Oklahoma lake's and pond's, as my grandpa was a farm to market trucker and harvester. Grandpa was well thought of by many land owners and owned a ranch with a lake and many pond's full of fish.

My brother and I camped on a big double pond that was always known to have nice Channel catfish and fat healthy Sun perch, at some point they must have stocked it with Black Bass, when I saw one breaking water on our first morning there. I got my lure box out and put a large black skirted, double hooked crank bait with lots shiny blades and brought a couple of other lures just in case. They attacked my lure like crazy!, Many times as I was cranking it through the water, I caught two at a time, 3 to 5 lbs and larger. This was in the early 80's on this memorable occasion, I'm in my 20's and I was so worn out catching Bass my arm's were cramping 🤣 🎣. I don't think these fish had ever seen a lure before and it was like they had a mission to kill that crazy thing. I told my grandfather about all the Bass we were catching and we came back with him later and wore him out too. I know you can catch bass on any body of water, but I've never caught as rmany eager double hooked bass in my life. Have any of you ever had a similar fishing experience with private waters?

I have on several occasions back in the late 70's, fishing a large strip pit. 100+ bass a day plus several double hook ups was quite common.

I really miss the good ole days!

Fish this lake all the time...

My wife and I have caught more bass weighing over 4 pounds than what we have caught weighing less than 4 pounds!

We fish there this lake with large brooder minnows that are 5-6 inches in length with a small balloon used as a float, set at whatever depth the fish are.

There are a lot of bass in this lake that run 7 to 10 pounds, with the occasional bass going bigger!

Below the dam is always good. Crappie and sand bass are biting very well there!

I've researched this subject seriously. The state biologist says a big Oklahoma shovelnose sturgeon is about 2 ft long. They are the smallest member of the sturgeon family & he says they inhabit both the Arkansas & Red River. I live about 20 miles from the Arkansas & have spent a lot of time snagging & fishing it's waters but have never seen the little beast. Wish you could join me for dinner tonight. Frog legs, catfish, coleslaw, fresh Morrell mushrooms & plenty of sweet tea. Tight lines.

Sounds like a dinner I would enjoy 😋

All of the sturgeon we have caught were within the Tulsa city limits in the Arkansas River, and have been caught on shrimp, crawdads and worms while tight lining and fishing for catfish...
