Hi Tim,
My wife and I had great success on kokanee using Buzz Bombs, and just jigging them. The bite was usually when the lure was fluttering back down. We had no counters, fish finder, our anything. The fish were about 20' down, and we just guessed-imated by doling out line 1-1.5' at a time by hand. It was great fun. (With a fish finder it would be much easier).

That's some tough "fishing"!
I award you a gold merit badge for endurance... even going back for more! Well done.

I'll keep you in mind for sure, GJ. But I'm going to wait till the weather warms a tad. It would be fun.

Hey grampa Joe,
This is another grampa in Battle Ground. I've fished the East fork a few times without luck. I walk at Lewisville Park regularly and always chat with the fishermen i see, but haven't heard or seen anyone pull one out in years. Both that park and Daybreak Park have fairly good access to the river for boats our bank fishing, but they've quit stocking the river so the success has plummeted. I'm sure there is someone out there that hooks one every now and then... but I think it is mostly then. Good luck my friend.

I live about a mile from Daybreak Park. It's a nice place to get wet on a hot day, but fishing with kids there would mostly be about getting your line wet. Fishing there hasn't been good for several years now.

I would like any recommendations where I can take my 5 and 6 year old grandchildren fishing this summer in southwest Washington state. The fish species doesn't matter. They just want to go fishing with me in my boat. They live in Portland and I live in Washington state. If there is a place to stay over night. That would be a bonus.

Hey Mr. dbeals,
I'm new to the forum but I think Battle Ground lake might fit the bill for you. It's about a 40 minute drive from Portland, there is camping available at the park, the lake is small, but regularly stocked with trout (big and small), and boats without outboard motors. Eagles (and sometimes cormorants, uhg) visit the lake. There is bank fishing also.
I've had good success using Power Bait near the bottom, but worms, etc. should work as well.

Battle Ground lake is pretty good. Use white power bait dishes on the bottom. Should do well if they are biting.
