Did you ever encounter muskies there?

Not in that part of Lake Simcoe. Muskies if caught in that lake or the adjoining lake (Couchiching) Must be released if caught. I’ve caught one there a little over 40 inches. A friend of mine with the Ontario MNR that recently passed away was in charge of reintroducing Muskies into those lakes, myself and several of our club members have helped releasing young muskies 4 to 6 inches in areas that provided plenty of cover for them.

Thanks for the pictures , nice ones. Could you tell me what the go to lure is ? Thanks. Trying to catch one or two at the Merrimack River in Lowell Massachusetts and also Haverhill .

I’m not sure if you’ll believe me, but the team with the winning weight caught them all on a drop shot using a ZMan Trick Shotz in the twilight color. My partner canceled at the last minute and since it was a team tournament I couldn’t fish. One of the winners and I fished this tournament last year together and watched a guy slamming them on a drop shot. So I reminded my last years partner to use the drop shot. He and his brother did and they won the tournament Saturday on it.

The Aurora Bassmaster’s held their annual Pike tournament on Lake Simcoe in Ontario. Compared to recent years fishing was pretty tough with 5 teams not boating a fish. The winning weight was also way down as it was only 23.15 lbs compared to 30 plus for the last 10 years. The big fish for the Tournament was a respectable 9.7lb bruiser.
Aurora Bassmaster’s set a three fish limit for the competitors. They did this as many competitors boats livewells are too small to insure the survival of 5 large pike. Catch and release helps insure the future of a healthy population of these great fighting fish.
Even with the tough fishing everyone said they enjoyed the day as fishing conditions were just about perfect. The pictures below will start with our 1st place finishers who were two brothers.

Any good places to throw a line?

You have several lakes you can take advantage of starting with Lake Oliver, Goat Rock, Lake Harding and then West Point. Bream, Crappie or Bass are all available with some real nice bream and crappie.

I know this is an older post, but had to post. A friend of mine and I left work after a 12 hour shift and ran to West Point Lake where a Wednesday night pot luck tournament was being held. I tried talking my friend into joining the tournament and even offered to pay all of the entrance fees and he still didn’t want to. While the tournament was going on I caught two 8lb bass on back to back cast and in the end our top 5 bass would have weighed 30+. We got back to the dock as the tournament ended and watched the weigh in. Winning weight was a little more than 13lbs. I could have killed my buddy as there was 31 boats and if we had been in it we would have split over $800 plus I would have won big fish which we would have also split. Regardless we had a great evening of fishing!

My boats rebuild and upgrades are complete. I picked up my boat this afternoon and was pretty darned happy with the end results. From the new Fulton Winch and Ultrex to my two Helix 9’s and 10 with Mega Live. These are all upgrades that should work well for me for years to come.

Like I said earlier, I believe that ALL the pics are of Water Moccasins.

If you wanna make SURE, poke it till it opens it's mouth.

Here are two pictures of two cottonmouths I found laying in the same treetop that had fallen into a creek. I was flipping a jig all around that treetop and never noticed the snake in the first picture as it laid completely still. I didn’t see the dark colored one until I was about three feet from it as I worked my boat around the end of the tree. The light colored one was the female and you can see she has eggs in her. The happy father is the darker of the two.
