Have you ever been fishing on a lake holding a Bass Tournament, but not in the tournament but caught the biggest Bass on the lake that day?
I did in 1989 while out on Lake Arrowhead fishing around my own cove I hooked a 9lb 6oz Large mouth Bass from under my own dock and live welled it, another area I've regularly caught some 6lb and 7lb bass and I hooked into two more, one 6.4 ounce and one nearly 7lbs. I ran to the bait shop at the State park, to my buddy who worked the store. I asked, weigh my Bass, I'm just curious to know how I'd have faired against all these professional fishermen's? Sure, he laughed why didn't you enter the contest!!!! You would be winning so far 😳 you're kidding? No I'll sponsor you with gas, lures and high tech fishing rods and reels and all the support for putting our decals on the boat. I said, naw I just wanted to see if I'd wanted to could I compete. I still felt pretty good with what could've been. Oh the team who came in first in this Bass Tournament, came the day before and tied off the Largest bass, a few ounces less than mine. He put lead weights in it's mouth?! Cheater was banned for life from Texas tournaments. I'm just an average Joe lakeside fisherman.

I won many slab crappie contest held on the lake because I built a crappie paradise oasis under my own fishing dock, but I never thought I could've won a tournament against a bunch of pro's 🤣 I got lucky and would have won a new Chevy 350 and Ranger Bass boat if I had entered. 😲
My days of tournaments are probably over last year I fished one for the first time in twenty years. I've had my share of big fish and won a few here and there . I tried to fish three this year. I'm just to old. Time has took its toll arthritis in both shoulders, both knees replaced, arthritis in the hands plus turning 68 July 8. Between that and gas and diesel prices I've seen my last Bass Fishing tournament. You'll enjoy them.

I hear you brother, I'm 65 with a baaad back and I just fish for crappie and catfish for a fish dinner and it will be at least a year before I can get to fish again recovering from major back surgery restrictions, I'm in rehabilitation for a long time.
I know this is an older post, but had to post. A friend of mine and I left work after a 12 hour shift and ran to West Point Lake where a Wednesday night pot luck tournament was being held. I tried talking my friend into joining the tournament and even offered to pay all of the entrance fees and he still didn’t want to. While the tournament was going on I caught two 8lb bass on back to back cast and in the end our top 5 bass would have weighed 30+. We got back to the dock as the tournament ended and watched the weigh in. Winning weight was a little more than 13lbs. I could have killed my buddy as there was 31 boats and if we had been in it we would have split over $800 plus I would have won big fish which we would have also split. Regardless we had a great evening of fishing!
