Please define "scrap fish" as that is often just a personal opinion. Back in the early 60's, bass were considered by most locals a scrap fish in Lake Whatcom. In some areas, pink salmon are consider a scrap fish. In some circles, pike are considered a scrap fish. Many people go so far as to call a dolly varden a trash fish. Among many Alaskans, quill backs are a nuisance fish and greenling are a scrap or trash fish. I fished with a local in northern Maine for the holy grail Atlantic salmon (a real bad fish in Puget Sound). He considered two and three pound brook trout a nuisance fish. As you can see, I am not attacking or even disagreeing with you. I am just trying to understand what you ar saying.

I consider any fish not native a "scrap fish." That said anyone, in my opinion, who targets a single species looks at the world through a drinking straw. I consider myself a rough fisher in that I am pleased to catch any fish, the tug is what enjoy

Hey man, I live in Vancouver and have been wondering if Drano Lake is worth exploring. Not for salmon, but for smallmouth bass - have you been?

Hey, BASS_SLAYER
Welcome to the forum, I hope it is helpful and entertaining for you. I am also in Washington state, SW corner, Vancouver. What part of WA are you in?

I do remember fishing Curlew Lake as a child and the rest is, evidently, bad intel from relatives who still live in the area. I believed it because I have read of so many trout lakes in Idaho and Montana that have been ruined by the bucket biologists.
My apologies and I will make sure of my intel before I post again or not post at all, probably the latter.

Never targeted Pike or another non-native invasive specie. I remember as a kid fishing Curlew Lake at my uncle's house and catching a lot of trout. Now they have to plant trout because the invasives (largemouth and smallmouth bass, Tiger muskie, etc.) eat the fingerlings. Thanks to the “bucket biologist” we have lost a lot of native trout in this state.

[quote=Kerry Hansen]I saw this and thought someone might be able to learn from it. (hope it works)

[Video] I found this on NewsBreak: This Is How I Hook My Minnows for Crappie Fishing!

Hey Kerry,
You cannot use live fish in Washington state for bait. Check this link. I wish we could

For a while I would see the Washington state forum when I opened the site and I found myself visiting more often. I had no time for a bit to come to the site and now I am back and I cannot even find the Washington forum. I am sure it is my inability to surf and not the site...could someone direct a lost fisherman, please?

Hey Rxruble, what part of WA are you in? I am in SW, Vancouver.
I really do not know how to fish except what I see on Youtube and in magazines. Do not go fishing much because my lack of knowledge makes it frustrating. The best advice you usually get on this forum is to go to a local tackle shop and get knowledge from them, but there are no local tackle shops that I know of.

I live in Vancouver, WA and I am an occasional fisher. Merwin is, I am told, a good place to go. Perhaps the gate keeper or resort folks could advise where and when too fish there.
There are no tackle shops in Vancouver - none. There was a fly shop by Costco, but not sure it is still open. I have tried to get advice at Sportsman's Wearhouse but most of the fishing department is either Oregonians or people who do not fish. There is a custom rod shop I have not visited called Troutstys.
There is a pond called Klineline (https://clark.wa.gov/public-works/salmon-creek-regional-park/klineline-pond) that is for mostly kids and they stock it pretty well. There are no boats and there are platforms to fish from.
There is also Lacamas Lake which connects to Round Lake and it offers pretty fishing on the shore. For Lacamas you have to get there really early to fish off the dock which used to be really good, but the SUP and recreational kayaks have taken over.
If you drive aways There is Kress Lake which is stocked really well. I have taken a canoe in, but it is mainly geared toward bank fishing - tons of small bluegill.
Good luck to you.

Never been so I tried to google search to see where it is and got an error "Sorry, your search appears to be outside our current coverage area for driving." I wonder if it has anything to do with the proximity to the Canadian border or if there are no roads. The aerial photo looks very nice.

Almost like he's fishing you, it seems. Dangling that bait. You just keep biting at it. But can't quite get it in your mouth. Peck, peck peck.(Not intending to be mean about it, I just can't stand it when people do things like that). Not very neighborly. Just my opinion, not trying to piss anyone off.

Yeah, not a fan of keeping it secret. I do understand not wanting a bunch of folks flooding your favorite.

I have fished American Lake 3 times over the past 4 years and have had nary a nibble. Weather cooperated and some friends talked me into going (4 of us total) with the specific goal of de skunking my boat. Cloudy and calm. We trolled for a couple hours before I caught a nice little keeper. On a dropper 30' deep with Brad's Kokanee Killer scented with Bloody Tuna. There, skunk done! 10 minutes later a holdover rainbow hit my worm tipped hoochie behind a chrome green dodger long lining with no weight. This one was a hog and put up a good battle on my light gear. Another great day on the water and fish to boot. The cutting board it 15" long. We be grillin tonight!

I fished the lower part of the Cowlitz last Saturday the 7th. It was high and dirty then. I have no clue what it is like since then. I wish that I had a contact in the area that I could get updates from. It sucks to drive two and a half hours, launch in the dark, cross the Columbia and go up the Cowlitz to see it is high and dirty once there is enough light.

There is a camera there, but I am not sure where it is located. Actually it is two cameras, one is currently showing a boat at anchor and a fellow wading. Not sure if it is any help - I did try though

One fish at a time,
Lewis

There is at least one camera on the Cowlitz that is live. Hard to tell the color, but shows the height of the water. There are actually two cameras and right now there is a boat and a fellow wading. I do not see where the location of the cameras is posted.
