Yes!!! It is the Ron Popiel's Pocket Fisherman. Invented and sold on tv from the late 60's to early 70's. This guy is an inventor, he also created the set and forget rotisserie oven on infomercials.

The fishing rod and reel work just fine and are fun to use. I had one for years and never did know what happened to it. Fold it in half and start in the glove box or center console.

I always look for that set up at garage sales and swap meets. People do not get rid of them. The little rig brings back memories fishing from the bank or on a dock. Especially useful on streams with heavy brush and cover. EVERY TRY TO BARREL ROLL WITH A SPINNING REEL.

Consider yourself blessed to own one.

Stay away from the Slab City Area. I had a membership at a private duck/goose hunting club near the Salton Sea. There are many reasons you should not fish there. The soil is heavily contaminated from fertilizers that leeched back into the Salton Sea. Now there is virtually no run off into the SS. The SS is evaporating and everyday more and more contaminated earth is exposed. When the wind gusts the contaminants are thrown everywhere exposing everyone and everything. Many of the locals have lung and breathing ailments. It is very unhealthy there. Add to the that there is an earth quake almost every day and there is also the possibility of the earth creating a vent and consuming what ever is above the vent. It is a strange place that smells bad. The mosquitoes will eat you alive at times. The State of California has allocated some $400 million to clean cup the SS area but from my experience of living in California, That money will not actually be spent on the SS but will accommodate illegals and the California Pension Fund. California is doomed. I am out of California as soon as possible. Taxes and fees do not equal value. I want out now. Forward to 2035 and gas engine cars will be outlawed. The end of days are coming if they are not already here.

I grew up fishing Lake St. Clair in Michigan which is known for Muskies. Muskies have a tendency to be very curious especially at the cavitation of a trolling outboard motor. A common method is to use a medium heavy to heavy rod 7 to 8 foot in length and 20 pound test line tied to a large stick bait. Troll the bait just to the edge of the boiling bubble of water behind the boat. The Muskies will usually slam the bait when the Musky swims to check out the cavitation bubbles. Be sure to have enough line between the tip of the rod and the bait. Too short of line and you will break a rod at the tip. Leaders are up to you. I always just tie line to lure. Stick baits 8 to 12 inches are best. Remember to have a grip on the rod or have a decent rod holder. Good luck to you. This method out fishes casting or live bait fishing hands down. Most people are unaware of this Musky phenomenon. Hope you have the same success as I did. I lost count of how many I caught over a 40 year period. I started casting to make it challenging.

Another place to fish but mostly Calicos is the mouth of the Newport bay and the Pacific. Southside along beach I used to clobber the Calicos. Also that bait receiver for Halibut and there have been a few bone fish caught in the harbor. Conjecture for all I know. There is a fish monger right next to PCH on the water and they may share some info. I always buy a few ponds of something to ease info from them

Yes a certain political party took notice of me and rear ended me 6 times and sideswiped me once. 2 of the rear enders were hit and run knocked me out both times and totaled both cars. One of the hit and runs had his license plate fall off. I was found not at fault by police and insurance. the only citation issued for all seven accidents was me. Too many accidents in one year. Then the VA failed to disclose a disabled rehab driving program. I researched it myself. Yes the resist movement is trying to punish me so I hold church with factsand a fishing rod only if asked and have plenty of time disclose the perps. Fishing keeps me grounded, oxymoron, and happy as with everything in life. Glad I do not hate. They are so angry. no worries, I do not give in, I dig in. Hell in the airborne infantry we are always surrounded. got them right where I want them, a cast away. Keep me posted on your successes. Every day fishing is a good day.

I had the same thoughts “boil gills” you are crazy. Normally pan fried. Drakes breading mix and sometimes crushed frosted flakes or crushed cheez it crackers for variety. Or ceviche gills is another winner. I have even ground the gills and made gill burgers.

My list of the tastiest fish
Yellow Lake Perch
Walleye Blue Gill
Catfish
Trout
Crappies
To each his own

Amazon sells Drakes breading mix. You cannot screw this up. Too thick add water. Too thin wait a few minutes and it will thicken on its own. Highly recommended.

I am from Algonac Michigan. The Chris Craft Boat company was located by the great boat builder Chris Smith. There are miles of shore line and many docks.

Every spring I fished private boat houses and docks around Anchor Bay and Harsens Island, Russel Island, Strawberry Island, Big and Little Muscamoot Bay and Goose Bay. The Bluegills are plate size 9 inches and catching a limit is the norm. Just a small hook and piece of night crawler it small worms. Under a bobber or my favorite is a long rod 8-10 Dick Swann noodle rod. Same set up minus bobber. Jig slowly and the trick is the Bluegill take the bait on the drop. So pull the up let the bait drop and half way down give your rod a sharp jerk upward, fish on.

Thought I would share sone info to motivate some of you. There is also 2 World record events that take place every year. The Jobbie Nooner Party at Gull Island and the Float Down. Google both and you will see a real boaters party.

Feel free to contact me if you are fishing Lake St. Clair or the St. Clair River ir Detroit River for Small Mouth Bass and Walleye fishing tips. I was dialed in after living and fishing around these bodies of water for 40 years.

Lastly what an outstanding catch.

When eating Bluegill, consider boiling instead of frying. Once boiled return to refrigerator to cool, make seafood or cocktail sauce. Bluegill taste just like shrimp this way and the Mrs. will not complain about the fish smelling up your home.

I hint on tying leader to braid line. You tube RP knot. A gentleman on the long range tuna charter boat Royal Polaris invented the knot. It’s sleek, remarkably small and very tough. It will shoot through guides most of the time compared to uni knots or others. Worked great for myself and will continue to use the RP knot

Hello, I have also been using bait casters for many years. I recommend that with bait or lure attached to line, click the release to allow line to pay out freely. As the lure or bait falls the spool should be adjusted so that the line flows freely but the line does not backlash. Once this is achieved I too finish my cast turning my wrist inward or forcing my thumb downward which creates line friction by the line paying out pulling against the reel itself. Some reels have a magnetic adjustment that creates a magnetic field to the spool to fine tune the reel speed to prevent backlash. It is also important to have a a couple of feet of line with bait and lure so that the it is about half the length of your rod hanging down before casting. If bait or lure is right at the end of your rod it usually will nose dive straight down from rod and into the water while the reel will be moving at a fast speed causing backlash. Remember to relax and be easy on yourself. No one taught me and I and wrecked countless yards of line until I was comfortable. The next year I was able to cast a plastic worm,no weight with 17 pound test with a 5’ 6” ugly stick and a diawa reel. It is still my go to bass setup in the toughest water to fish. Stumps timber weeds lily pads or open water or top water fishing. You will figure it out. When you do it’s magic. Hope this helped.

Now I mag my saltwater reels with rare earth magnets. Another story for another time.

Anaheim here. Restoring a 20’ Skipjack Flybridge. Fished the Tuna boats hard for 5 years and the prices are getting astronomical. I also have a 12 ‘ Jon and deep v boat and a Old Town 2 seat kayak. Retired now but do not drive. The CA DMV and VA attempting to control me. The price I pay as a Veteran.
