I had a 9.9 Yamaha for years. Good motor. I sold it when I changed boats and went to an 8hp Tohatsu. Super impressed with Tohatsu. Best cold weather starting kicker I've had. And they are cheaper. It also says a lot that every Merc under 15hp is really a Tohatsu. Meaning the guts of the engine. I think Nissans under 15hp are also Tohatsu.
Braided is great. I can cast farther and for the same diameter as 10lb mono you can't get 30lb test. It's more expensive of course. No stretch is good too.You still want mono for leader though.
Your sitting in a great Walleye area. Where the Snake dumps into the Columbia is where the state record was caught.
Im planning to go up by Concrete next week. Will let you know how I do. Lots of rain coming so hopefully the river doesnt get too bad of shape.
A 4 inch dodger with a green muddler minnow fly about 12 to 16 inches behind it using leaded line 4 colors with 20 feet mono is a solid rigging for eastern WA lakes in Spring. They arent very deep. Troll in zig zag pattern like a drunken sailor.
Do you or anybody else know who might service a Walker electric down rigger? They are Canadian made. Ive owned it for over 20 years and it finally stopped working. Cant get it to do anything.
I saw a collection of old reels displayed hanging from a ceiling like a mobile. It was really cool. Looked like the solar system with many planets being the reels. It was hanging in a log cabin with high ceiling, probably 25 reels.
I just talked to an old timer who lives on the lower part of the Skagit. He said plunking spin glow corkie, yarn exactly like you do for Pinks works just as well for Steelhead. Kind of surprised my. I always thought Steelhead liked to chase and be agitated.
Thanks. Kwikfish with a herring wrap is effective on the Columbia for both salmon and steelies.
Is spinning with diving plugs effective at all?
I see the Skagit is open for Steelhead starting February 3rd between Concrete an Marblemount. Does anyone have any tips and locations for good shore fishing? I have chest waders and would like to know good spots, lures to use, etc.
That time of year I would head to north Idaho. Priest Lake for lake trout, kokes and cutthroat and just the sheer beauty of it. Then over to Lake Pend Orielle for a shot at huge rainbows. It's not super hot yet at that time.
I guess there is a major decision due on the future of the dams on December 15th. Of course, it is the govt and could be delayed again. I don't think the salmon and Steelhead runs on the Snake will be sustainable with the constant increase in water temps due to climate change. More cooler flow us needed. They had horrible algae blooms this year.
Agree. But they could have at least put fish ladders or a by pass at Grand Coulee. Lake Roosevelt Is an awesome fishery and many thanks govto the Native Americans. Not to get into the damn dam debate but as a compromise the Snake River dams I think should be gone and keep the ones on the Big C. We get most the hydro power from the Columbia dams.
Before Grand Coullee the salmon run on the Columbia would have 90 lb salmon that the Indians would spear fish at Kettle Falls. The river was way narrower and swift back then. Those damn dams changed everything.
