Displaying antique reels.
I have about 30 antique reels. Some are spinning, some fly, some baitcasting and a few mooching reels. I am looking for good ways to display them, on a shelf on the wall or any other way. I have woodworking skill and tools to make what I need. I am open to any suggestions, especially with attached photos. I have to give credit to Tuboshu for inspiring me to create this topic. Thanks in advnce

Iโd go with a large shadow box. Maybe fastened to the back in a way that they looked like they float or dowel rods that stuck out from the back. Have fun canโt wait to see what u come up with.

My BIL found some wooden soft drink crates with dividers for the individual bottles. He had them filled with old baitcasters. He hung them on the wall for display. Looked really nice. The cost of the vintage drink crates might be somewhat expensive these days. Don't know if they would work for spinning reels.

HI! If I am not mistaking "ANTIQUES" are 100 years old or more. If you do have some reels from 1824 or before I would be interested. Not to pop your bubble, reels 20 years and older are "VINTAGE".

Actually, you are mistaken according to the dictionary. According to Oxford:
a collectible object such as a piece of furniture or work of art that has a high value because of its considerable age.
"Pauline loves collecting antiques"
Similar:
collector's item
period piece
museum piece
antiquity
object of virtu
heirloom
treasure
relic
curio
objet d'art
bygone
adjective
1.
(of a collectible object) having a high value because of considerable age.
"an antique clock"
belonging to ancient times.
"statues of antique gods"
Similar:
ancient
of long ago
classical
of yore
verb
That being said, if you want to call them vintage, who am I to argue. The truth be told, I don't give a darn what they are called. I generally just call them old, as most of my reels are from the fifties and well before. Some are pre 1900.
The important thing is that I am not an antique, because I am definitely non more valuable due to my age. I am just old

Right on Bapa Bear. They are even classifying furniture from the 1970s and 1980s as antique collectables. I could also be classified as an antique but like you I am just old.

I watch the antique road show and lot's of the old antique items has went down in price from the last ten years, I believe it's because the young people coming up doesn't want old they want new ๐ I hate that because you would think they would want to keep history alive ๐ฅด๐ฅด๐๐

I donโt like seeing Antique Auto plates on cars I used to drive ๐. I donโt want to consider what that makes me!

I like to work with wood also. Looking forward to pictures of what you come up with. My granddaughter had a child in December and texted me a picture. The baby was in a cradle that I built when 1 of my grandsons was born. He is 32 years old. When I made it I never thought it would be around this long.
I bought an old standing cabinet that was a basket case at a thrift store a few years ago and re-stored it. I later saw the same kind of cabinet in a 1930s John Wayne western movie. I would say that it is old!

I think the best way would be floating shelves. Shelves that have no visible means of support. I would make them shallow. I have a vintage/ antique tackle box collection that I used aged barn wood for the shelves but didnโt float them. Theyโre in my man shed. I would have floated them in the house.
