40 years ago i wraped a 10wt fly rod blank into a fabulous smb spinning rod for wading rock ledges in the New river. It would really send 1/8 oz baits. I also use one wraped as a casting rod on my downrigger.
When you cast aim for the sky not the water. What was said about casting brake adjusting and smooth oposed to a snap when you cast.
BUT on my heavers i loosen her up until the spool moves side to side. Aim for the moon heave with all my might. Educated thumb helps when heave is not smooth enough. Clamp down on spool with thumb just before it hits water. In the dark that takes a practiced feel.

I have a 7000c syncro drag, with the level wind removed, on an 11'6" lamiglass 1361 (?) 20# running line, 60# shockleader, for chunking 8 and bait from the beach. And a 6500 sports rocket on a 10 fter that throws 4-6 oz. That real also trolls for trout and walleye on a lighter freshwater trolling rod. And a musky fisherman might use 7000 in fresh water.
Filet one. It looks like a small hand with long fingers. Slice the fingers into "scallops". Lot of work for little meat, but yes they could be passed off as scallops. Maybe a "car hood" size would be more meat for amount of effort?
I dream of one with the sail as well. If i could have a 2nd plastic boat that would be it i think.

Look for some rocker in hull. Wider is NOT better. I know it's 3,000 mi away but appomattox river company, paddleva.com is THE former lumber yard full of the plastic navy.
Sold dagger legend because after paddling my wilderness tarpon 120 i would never paddle best canoe in the world again. Love my 120, from small streams to surfing the atlantic. Don't get shorter.
Lots of good fishing in vermont. Dunmore has two fisheries the top of hourglass shape has bass etc (still has state rec?) Lower bulb is deep and trout (still has state record rainbow)

Do you find stomachs full of mud and plastic up there? I drove my beach buggy all the way to boston ( daughter's cello audition) and all the way out the cape, beach closed? WTF passed zero tackle shops. Whale watching seemed hip...
