Has anyone tried stingray?

There are a lot of big catfish and stingray in the St. John’s river right now. I went out on Sunday and caught both, and let them all go. When I got back to the dock and was talking to someone, they were saying I was crazy for throwing them back. He said he always keeps his catfish and stingrays and that the stingray taste likes scallops?!

I would love to hear if anyone else has tried these

Who hasn’t tried catfish? I’m not a big fan myself, but it is usually fried, and I’m not a fan of fry oil in general.

I haven’t tried stingray as far as I know, but I’ve heard that cheap “scallops” or imitation scallops are sometimes made from cookie-cutter cutouts of stingrays.

Saltwater cat isn’t like freshwater cat. You can cook it anyway you want and it’s still terrible

Was that guy a homeless dude living down by the pier? He was wrong. Not good eating. If you really want to eat stingray get down to the meat by pealing off the hide and cartilage that surrounds it. It's not worth the effort. I have never eaten saltwater catfish, but from everything I've heard, why would you want to?

Funny thing about stingrays. If you allow them to dry out you will get a picture of Christ. Or rather a depiction of Christ. They sell well

Rays are protected in Fl. That is true about the rays tasting like scallops though. Sharks taste the same. To keep shark when fishing from shore or piers you are required to take an online coarse and print out a free permit. this has to be done yearly. If you've bought scallops at the store and they were larger than quarter size they were more than likely, either and/or shark, and Ray.

I was saying "exactly" to the person who said cheap restaurants pass them off as scallops. They don't taste like scallops, as scallops are soft and melt in your mouth. Skate is tough and chewy. Don't bother!

Stingrays are great grilled or baked. Had my first in Malaysia and S.F. in the early nineties.
