One of the simplest things you can do is download the "Fish Washington" app. It really is a great tool. Every time that you open the app, it will update which keeps you up to date on any "Emergency" regulation changes. If you update it once a week or so it does not take too long to update. Unless there have been major changes in the regulations it generally updates fairly fast. I heard that there is an updated version of the app available now. However, I could not find it in the Apple app store but that could just be me. Computers, Apps, and Smart Phones kick my butt on a regular bases.

I agree with Thuner above. Chum are a lot of fun to catch but are not the best table fare. Like Thuner, I too would fish Chum Salmon catch and release. They are fun to catch.

Looks like a great spot for Plunking.

I am not sure of what runs of fish the Nisqually gets. I know it has Fall Chinook, Chum, and Coho Salmon in the fall. I am sure that there is a run of winter steelhead too. I do not know about Spring and Summer run Chinook in that river.

Hello,

Thinking of going down and bank fishing the Elochoman river this weekend. I am 64 years old with bad knees and a bad back. Could someone kind point me to a spot that I could try fishing at. I will gladly trade someone a Spring Chinook fishing trip in my boat out of Rainier later this Spring for access if someone has some private property that they would let me fish.

I remember those days. I used to catch some pretty nice Steelhead up there. Back in the mid 70's early 80's the Puyallup used to be one of the top Steelhead producing rivers in the state.

My understanding is the same on the nets that they are out on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Not to blame anyone, but what has happened to the Steelhead run in the Puyallup. Many years ago, the Puyallup was consistently the number 3 producing river for Steelhead in the state. Now there is not even a Steelhead season on the Puyallup. I used to love fishing the Puyallup for Steelhead back in the 70's and 80's. Mismanagement by State and Tribal Fisheries Managers?

Has anyone had any luck catching Sockeye yet this year? I am planning on coming down next week and trying my luck. Currently I am undecided wither to fish out of Rainier, Willow Grove, or Cathlamet. Going Shrimping one last time on Hood Canal on Saturday, then will swap a few things around in my boat for Salmon/Steelhead fishing.

I am interested too.

I missed the last four days of the Columbia River Springer Fishing when there were quite a few news articles saying that the WDFW had extended the season by four days. However, the WDFW never updated their web site. I really wanted to go Springer fishing again but according to the regulation the season was closed.

I used to fish the Tucannon, Touchet, and Walla Walla (Above Walla Wala) Rivers years ago. I remember doing pretty well on the Tucannon for Trout. That was a very long time ago though. I have no idea what it is like now.

As for the rules, I have found the best thing is the "Fish Washington" App that I have downloaded on both my phone and I-Pad. Once you have it downloaded, I would advise that every so often, you open the app so that it can download any and all updates when the change the rules with "Emergency" Regulations. Once you have the app downloaded, pay around with it and figure it out some. It has a ton of information in it. It is great that you can zoom in on the spot that you want to fish, tap on it and the latest regulations will come up.

Thanks for the advice, I have been going up into the lower Cowlitz a ways. I have to be careful as my boat has props on it. I will go on Ifish and see what I can find out.

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks for the information, I have been checking the dam counts weekly and have heard that a few Springers have already been caught. Too bad the WDFW shuts the season down April 7th. I am planning a trip down in mid-March sometime, and I am thinking about taking a few days off work the first week of April. I was told and I am not sure about this, but I was told that the Springers tend to run up the Oregon side of the Columbia. But, I am not sure how much I want to believe that.

Thanks,

Has anyone been catching any Springers yet? I am planning on heading down in a few weeks and trying my luck. I am a beginner and have been launching out of Rainier or west Longview. Are there better areas that anyone would recommend for a newbie. I would love to be able to spend more time fishing down there but it is just shy of a three-hour drive for me to get down there.

Thanks,

Jim Bradbury
