Has anyone been catching any Springers yet? I am planning on heading down in a few weeks and trying my luck. I am a beginner and have been launching out of Rainier or west Longview. Are there better areas that anyone would recommend for a newbie. I would love to be able to spend more time fishing down there but it is just shy of a three-hour drive for me to get down there.
Thanks,
Jim Bradbury

I’m sure a few. You have a Facebook account? There is much more local information on Facebook and few other places online. There is sub groups on there with Willamette Chinook etc. I use it for fishing and hunting groups. It has much more members in an area you may be with detailed information
April and May are usually hottest in PDX area. The springers are in Columbia at coast by now for sure water temperature is everything.
You can go to Bonneville Dam and Willamette Falls fish counts to see which river and where they are more concentrated on daily basis. The information is few days delayed but very informative
Thanks for the information, I have been checking the dam counts weekly and have heard that a few Springers have already been caught. Too bad the WDFW shuts the season down April 7th. I am planning a trip down in mid-March sometime, and I am thinking about taking a few days off work the first week of April. I was told and I am not sure about this, but I was told that the Springers tend to run up the Oregon side of the Columbia. But, I am not sure how much I want to believe that.
Thanks,

Hello you may also look around Kalama area they have runs just not sure when
Jeremy, would you be kind enough to share which groups on FB?
Especially if they’re open to sharing, discussing, and providing good information.
Thank you.

Go a little later and get them in the Cowlitz. Shorter drive. Same fish.
Go to Ifish on the internet for latest on fishing in nw.
Thanks for the advice, I have been going up into the lower Cowlitz a ways. I have to be careful as my boat has props on it. I will go on Ifish and see what I can find out.
Thanks,
Jim

Hey I'm planning on going in down for first time in April too, I am total newbie. If you wanna meet down there or something like that, I think 2 newbie heads are better than 1? Anyway let me know. fyi I have Ascend 128x with trolling motor, and would like to meet other kayak anglers.

Willamette Springers. Columbia Springers. Pacific Northwest Salmon. Coastal Fishing. You just gotta search fishing Salmon or any other type your interested in. The Facebook groups will link up with you . You ask to join etc. There is moderators etc that review you and let you join. I think you can probably start your own if you really wanted to as well.
Jeremy, I’ve a buddy with a couple kayaks and we’ve been talking about salmon fishing from them.
Unsure if we’ll be able to get three calendars aligned, but I’m game to give it a shot.

I guess if you all wear PFDs. I prefer bank or good sized boats for hooking 7-60 lb. fish effectively. Be safe and good luck.
