Looking for someone who has the scoop and experience of fishing for stripers off the banks of the Sac.
The area is from Colusa south, Grimes area and Tisdale. Also any places to pull a pickup in and sleep after fishing for the day. I understand that most guys boat fish this area... but sometimes I like to go light and not mess with a boat.

Thanks in advance

Hacksaw… that was a really funny line when I first heard it 50 years ago! But then came cell phones… fat fingers and cell phones will never be able to tell the intended story. Small potatoes as they say.

Do you know when those strippers move up the sac and into Colusa?

I'm interested in fishing on the Sacramento River around the city of Sacramento. Any suggestions about where, what to fish for, and what methods and baits will yield best results?
Thanks.

My buddy and I are leaving Thursday 1/27 we will stay at a hotel in Anderson on the river, we have our own drift raft (Fly Catcher is the Company name) we also have never fished the Sac before, were gonna do four different floats down the river(4 days) to get a feel of the river. Put in at Redding and float down to a take out somewhere and work our way down to Red Bluff and down from their maybe. Trout and Steelhead are what happening now I believe on the middle Sac, the lower Sac where you are is probably fishing the same right now. Stop by and talk to a small tackle shop in your area... they will bring you up to speed.

Great advice! Will give them a try for sure. Was also thinking I might bring some meal worms and redworms. Thanks Dandad.

Use nightcrawlers on a wormhook... thread them on with a worm threader. Can use them on a fly rod or spinner under a small bobber, absolutely will destroy trout.

I've been fishing since I was 5...long time ago! We moved to Utah 6 years ago but haven't been fishing in about 8 years. We came from CA where all we caught was rainbow trout. I'm excited to catch something different here. Any tips on where to fish? We live in Southern Utah. I'm looking for places to reach for day fishing and further places to camp and fish. Is love to hear your stories.

Try Lake Powell, smallmouth, largemouth, strippers and walleye.

Going to be in San Carlos area January 8th through the 18th 2022. Hoping to hook up with some like-minded fishermen to help me find some good fishing spots. I was there 2 years ago couldn't get anything off the shore but hit the jackpot few miles out with yellow fins. Can anybody fill me in on how the fishing's been lately?

Terry

When you say off the shore I guess you mean surf fishing? If you fish in the bay with a small boat or kayak around the mangroves you will be rewarded with bass, grouper and lot's of halibut. And offshore (as you already know) for pelagic fish if the conditions in January are right.

Fly fishing from the Cypress Street Bridge is bring in nice Rainbows to 6 pounds with an occasional nice steelie in the 12-14 pound range. Check with the Fly shop in Redding as they have 89-10 drift boats a day out and it is catch and release.

Right on everybody... thanks for jumping in. Yeah, I am not much for guide fishing... but it is the way to go for some.
I know about the Redding Fly shop great place... We do have our own drift boat and a couple of kayaks.
Fishing Fool what has your set up been to fool those trout and steelhead???

Yellow for sure... Why? If your fly fishing or using a spinner you can see when to mend the line, if you are trolling you can see your spread of lines behind the boat.

There is a place between Colusa and Yuba City called Lovey's Landing, just north of Meridian. You can google it. They have a launching facility and a bar and restaurant which is currently closed for renovation I believe. If you go there you can talk to folks there about fishing that area. It's right on the Sacramento River. I've never fished the Sac for stripers or salmon. My river has always been the Feather. Different critter I'm sure.

That's fun part about fishing! every lake, stream or river has their secrets... and they don't give them up easily. They all fish differently.
