only muskie fishing, that I have done is up on the Tahquamenon falls in the U.P. we all used jointed perch Rapala 6 inch, we all did good

The entire Taquamenon River is full of musky. That lower falls section you mentioned is a great place. Last summer I fished the last mile as it goes into Whitefish Bay waters. Another I’m going back to is Dollarville Flooding. One hard fish to catch.

Yep they sell the little blue handle scissors work great and are very inexpensive made just for braid and fluorocarbon, I bought a dozen and always carry two with me incase I drop it overboard:-) Tied of lanyards:-)
SOB

I have a 4.00 set of Berkely braid scissors. First time using them I was shocked how cleanly and quickly they cut. Had them for 2 years now.

I agree the Jerry Brown hollow core I fish with is soft supple and very abrasive. Fishing only three to four feet fluorocarbon 30lbs leader of 20lbs Maine line gets well worn on the mangrove roots while fishing snook, redfish and trout with live bait.
SOB

For a leader I use 30# floro but all it has to endure is maybe musky teeth. Funny thing, we have big musky and pike hitting jigs and 4# test. With several witnesses, it was a 3/4hr fight but the 50” monster came through the hole. Anyways, that aside have you tried to nip off braid with fingernail clippers? I carry special little scissors now. Tough stuff.

With wire leaders then. Those all have sharp teeth!

Leaders only when casting large glide baits in musky water. Then I’m using 50# braid. With the 30#, no leader and few bite-offs. Braid is tough.

Power Pro 30# on all my reels, 4 seasons including ice fishing. I fish for pike, musky and walleye mostly. Very durable.

I fish the Chain out of Ellsworth and Central Lake. Great place to ice fish for them.

It’s tough fishing up there with water temps near 70deg. Canoe? Head up US2 near Marenisco and take a peak on your fishing map. See all those lakes south of 2 down at the Wisc border? That is an adventure of fishing.

What a great trip and getaway from the dreary Michigan spring! Surf fishing looks like fun and not knowing what will bite makes it interesting. Good to hear from you! Walleyes open this weekend.

Good day fishing in the great state of Michigan! That lake is notorious for first and last ice outings going into the adventure zone. Muskie? Seriously, who talks muskie around here??

Just curious. Most people clean them here with a scissors rather than a knife. Is that how you do it there?

Yes we used scissors, at least some 50 years ago.

Good job on a successful night! When we were kids in the ‘60s and ‘70s, if someone would suggest catching them hook and line I’m sure there would have been a sarcastic reply. Dipping was a blast but sitting outside with scissors cleaning a big bucket full was work. My dad and I would smoke them in applewood for a family treat.

After first glance = tiger muskie....but no wait, there's something wrong with the stripes. I've had 49 tigers in my boat and none looked quite like yours. Its not a pike. But barred true muskies don't have such pronounce dark stripes. My wild guess is that its a wild bred cross muskie x pike = some genetic variation that is not typical at all from hatchery bred tigers. I'll pass this onto my muskie fishing buddy who has direct contact with our WA hatchery.

Thank you, I want to know more. There are others in the lake.
