Hey, all. I’ve trout fished for most of my life, but almost exclusively with rooster tails as I could never master fly fishing and I love the cast-and-retrieve style as opposed to float-and-wait.
I’ve picked up some Trout Magnet artificial worms to use this year, though, and my problem is that I don’t really know how to fish them. Do I need to use a float or can I use a retrieve method I’m more used to with the worms? Have some BB-sized split-shots ready too.
I’m excited to use these worms, but hoping I don’t have to just cast and watch a bobber with these worms. Any help is greatly appreciated!
So I have fished many different brand and types of trout worms including trout magnets over the past several years. This has become my preferred method of fishing for trout other than a fly rod. I have landed two double digest trout in the past few years and countless over 5 pounds using trout worms. I use 2 or 4 pound test line with 1/32 or 1/64 jig heads. My favorite color to start with would be a bubble gum color and then will switch to orange, green, natural etc depending on water conditions. My largest rainbow was a 12 pounder caught on a pink and white mouse tail jigged this method in a lake. After trout fishing for the last 53 years I would say jigging trout worms with an 8 foot rod on light line are by far the most productive. Good luck and add a little twitch on your retrieve. 👍
