True enough--specs are Speckled Trout, a salt water fish. However, here in Florida, Speckled Perch are also referred to as "specks," and are what will be found in the fresh-water Harris Chain of Lakes. Speckled Perch are also called "Crappies," "Croppies," "Calico Bass," and probably lots of other names in other parts of the country!

Walleye in Lake Hopatcong? I grew up there, left many years ago. I don't remember Walleyes. Yours are nice fish. When did stocking of these begin?

Having grown up on the Caloosahatchee, I recall many of them there. They would bite on any meat or fish wrapped in screen and floated behind a popping cork--

This goes back many years, but while in school in South Carolina, we used to wrap a piece of liver in aluminum screen and tie it on. Gar in rivers in that area were top-feeders, so it was rather simple to reel them in while their teeth were meshed in the screen---
