New here. (Harris chain in central Florida)
I like spec fishing on the Harris chain in central Florida. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm told now is a Prime time.

Are the Harris lakes fresh water?
Specs are a salt water species! So I would assume the New Member is talking about salt water fishing. I have always had my best luck fishing with a popping cork and a rig of 2 small jigs with plastic shrimp tails. If you have a boat, watch for seagulls diving on a spot in the bay. They are feeding on shrimp forced to the surface by specs. You can catch your limit if you can find that and stay with them. Just Sayin...RJS

RJ I know people from Florida that call crappie specs. I've never been there myself.
Hi Pap, this is Rich. I live in Leesburg on Lake Griffin.
Fish out of a 23' Hurricane Deck boat mostly on Griffin for Bass and now and then Crappie.
Where do you live? Perhaps we can do some fishing if your interested. I always like to meet new people and enjoy the outdoors and adventures.
Let me know.

Welcome to the Stage. Good Luck with the specs, what ever they are. I'm a Yankee, no help from me.

Welcome to the Stage Pap21, there's lots of Floridians here, like Richie. He's a freshwater guy. Good luck and Tight Lines!
True enough--specs are Speckled Trout, a salt water fish. However, here in Florida, Speckled Perch are also referred to as "specks," and are what will be found in the fresh-water Harris Chain of Lakes. Speckled Perch are also called "Crappies," "Croppies," "Calico Bass," and probably lots of other names in other parts of the country!
