Do it! I moved back home for a reason. Yeah yeah, some say you gotta go way downstream to "find fish", but that just seems odd. 2 rivers converge on either side of me 800' from my house. I don't and won't use electronic stuff to look at fish where they live, but there's been a good population of basstypes here since I started slingin plastic worms in the early 60s. Dunno why dudes think they all moved downstream. Like a writer friend of mine, I'm a minimalist fisherman, apparently. I can fish for hours, catch one little one and go home smiling.
