Would have liked to see the whole fish

And I would have love to show you too. Unfortunately I was solo and would need a 8 ft arm to stretch camera out… and no way am I laying that slimy fish on my carpet. Just saying. 😁

Now that is one "Monster" catch. How long did it take to get it in? Grats to you buddy, now you will have to fish with Tim and I this summer. LOL

Hahaha. Long ! Exploded on my jackhammer chatterbait. All I could think of was “there goes $16”. 😉. Chased him around on the trolling motor, around the boat multiple times… then a complete fire drill once boat side trying to get boga grip on his lip without getting bit. It wasn’t a pretty show ! Hahaha

Wow, I envy you. That one is on my bucket list. Thank you!! for releasing it to breed another day. One hint is to hold those big guys horizontally instead of vertical. They are so heavy that the neck vertebrae and gill structure can be seriously injured to the point of death. I like to weigh them in the net as I bring it out of the water and then photo them horizontal. Those big guys are not so good to eat. I have finally settled on eating under 5 pounders. The 18 inch pike taste very close to walleye.

Unfortunately, holding it horizontally was impossible for a pic, as I was solo.

Wow JB! I love big fish, and that is a big one!
Did you happen to get a length on her?

I didn’t. It was all I could do lifting it on my boga grip and try to get a photo… I think the tail was still on deck during photo

I grew up walking distance from that pier. Started fishing off it at age 9. In those days, fishing was outstanding. Everyday there were quality halibut (20 lb plus) caught. At the very end and south side, there were a group of hard core halibut guys. There was a right of passage, and those boys wouldn’t let anyone outside their core group to get anywhere close to the railing. But it was a real education for a pinhead like me to watch and learn. By 14, I was able to be a deckhand on “The City of Redondo & the Redondo Special”. 3 years later I was able to deck on the Pursuit, which ran overnight island trips. Fishing those waters back in those days was outstanding. Gradually things changed, but I’m sure occasionally a nice fish is caught on that pier. At age 71, now residing in n/w Montana, I look back on those wonderful memories made on that pier.

Winter wait is over. Big greenie today welcoming me back on the water. Saw some fish hanging in about 10-15 ft of water on the FFS, but really tough to motivate. Fritz’s flat side managed to catch a few good ones. All fish released to fight again. Tight lines to all

I caught my first bass in Alondra 61 years ago.
Size 4 hook with dead grasshopper.
Pretty sure things have changed since then.
Tight lines . . . .

Not sure about catching a fish… but good odds if you drag a treble hook on the bottom of that little city pond, you might snag a tweaker still grasping his glass pipe !

Nice fishing. Contrary to many on this board, your electronics are your friend. 👍

I would respectfully disagree. Every single elite pro that week was, for the most part, very skilled on FFS. It may not be their so called strong suit or even preference, but I can assure you they have FFS skills. I can also promise they have have some of the best FFS gear on board. All that being said, the winner had to put his FFS skills together with his fishing skills. Again, I can’t emphasize it enough… FFS is just one tool among many, including “fishing skills”. It can sometimes make your day on the water, and on other days it doesn’t really add much. Just my 2 cents.

Looks like we are getting a bit off track in this post. Were all fishermen on this site and share a common bond. In my humble opinion, I think a lot of anti FFS folks don’t really have an idea on its usage. Just because I have added additional electronics up front, doesn’t mean I’ve discarded everything I’ve learned in the last 5 decades of finding and catching bass. Everything is still being factored in every single time, including FFS. If anything, I’ve added to the equation in trying to crack the code that day. It’s not easy. Especially when you find some fish, but are reluctant to bite. It doesn’t tell me how to position up on the fish, nor what lures and presentation to make. It can be frustrating but also very addicting at the same time. It’s just one more tool, among many, on the boat. Not for everyone but fun

Well, perhaps it’s time to end this post. To all those anti FFS folks. Thank You. Just more fish for a novice like myself to try and locate, catch and then release.
