Just a small addition: you do not need to invest in a surf rod and reel. Just a med. weight spinning rod will do. Surf perch gather just outside the first or second line of foam. Often in just a few feet of water.

A very worthy addition at that! I generally just use 9'8" Medium weight Steelhead rods, work like a charm

Look for irregularities in the surf. They denote troughs, trenches, holes etc. Throw gulp camo sandworms (two inch variety) or sand crabs, if you can find them. I prefer the carolina rig.

I couldn't have worded that any better myself Foodfisher!

Bascially everything you need to know to get started, and nothing you don't need to complicate it!

I heard Philip's resivoir is good

It can be very good for trout and has a ton of yellow perch
There are also smallmouth bass available
The water level has been at an all time low but fish are still available

Uni knot is hands down my favorite, I use it for everything I tie besides a drop shot
It works great with mono, floro, and braid and the double uni is pretty great for line to line knots

Im not from your neck of the woods at all
But 'round here Crappie would be suspended probably around 40' deep, I would look for water somewhere around 50-60' and vertical jig down about 30-40'
Just my 2 cents!

You could head to Hells Canyon Dam for some Salmon/Steelhead action
Or Brownlee reservoir for some smallmouth bass and catfishing
Or many local reservoirs and streams for trout fishing

If you are interested in more information on any of these spots just let me know! I have been fishing around Baker City since '92 and my dad since the mid '70s

Another great post RJ!

What I wouldn't give to sit on the porch and listen to your stories all day and into the night!
I grew up in a town of about 10 thousand people, never much opportunity

2 months ago I start for a company based out of Seattle, as a pipefitter and have spent the last week working in the big city, I am making almost twice what I was last year at this time and will be advancing quickly in my knowledge and pay. They're sending me to classes in Oklahoma and Texas for HVAC certifications so I can get more into that side of the business, hopefully I will have some awesome widsom and stories also!

Nicely done sir!

My hats off to you for simply studying the build and then doing it yourself, must have been a nice feeling when it worked so well

We definitely need more of this simple, smart and effective use of ones brain these days!
