Hey, Cad Jack, Welcome to the site and many thanks for your service. Wood County, Texas has got to be one of the most top shelf counties in the 254. The four Wood County Lakes were among the best fishing lakes here ant then Fork was built. So you have five of the top twenty within rock throwing distance. Let me share a little story. I'm retired TxDPS. I was stationed in Denton the last 11 years of my service. We had a new Troop come To work in about 2004. His name was Tomberlin and he was a sharpie. Six foot four and 220 pounds and smart as a whip. We were sitting in the breakroom one night, shotting the breeze. My wife also worked for DPS and this young man had met her also. He mentioned he was from Wood County and I told him about a fishing trip Linda and I had been on at Lake Winnsboro. It blew up one of the darnest thunderstorms I've ever been in. We were on the N.E. side of the lake, so we boogied up a little creek there and about a hundred yards up the creek was a barn 20 yards away. We tied off the boat and ran for the barn and took cover. There were stalls and a hay room loaded with square bales. We sat on the bales, took off our rain gear and a few clothes to try to dry them. We stayed there about three hours. Linda say, " Lonnie, here comes somebody". The was a skinny kid coming to the barn. He came in to feed the stock and we must have scared him to death. At this point in my story State Trooper Tomberlin stopped me and said, ''You had a blue and white boat." Puzzled, I asked how he knew. His statement was, " I was that kid and that was my daddy's barn. Twenty years later and a 150 miles away. He made a good Trooper. The last I heard of him he had made Lieutenant and was flying one of the state helicopters down on the border. The whole point to the story is that it's a small world and there is more to fishing than catch and release. Keep your hooks sharp, folks
