No, I been getting away with 12 lb. mono leader material. It's a little more stiffer and more cut resistant.
These fish used their long mouth and slashed sideways so the spoon was never in the mouth, only the hook.

Maybe your fish were bigger and had the baits in the mouth.

Never used steel leaders either when I went Ice fishing. Just straight 20 lb dacron. Those fish were bigger and went to 4 lbs.

Thanks. I always used steel leaders in Canada for pike and musky but I was fishing for crappie and perch so...

Your right. I found out there was pickerel in it when I was testing some home made spinners.
Also the pond was good to test fishing reels that i serviced or modified.
After covid hit there was a lot more fishing pressure and the fish are smaller and less. even saw people taking out small sunnies.

I'll still fish the whole winter and do good as long as their is no ice. Spring the weeds are bad.

Good park to mountain bike. First ride around the pond than the ballfield and last into the woods and the come out at the top and bomb the hill. No cars. Great exercise.

Do you use wire leaders? Just spent a week in PA and lost a few jigs and crankbaits to them.

Usually it’s close to impossible to get both. Great mileage and ok towing capacity. Toyota Tacoma with v6 gets about 20MPG and can tow over 6000 lbs with 4 wheel antilock brakes

I've got a 2022 Tacoma which gets about 22 MPG normal driving but that drops to about 16 when towing my 2000# boat - same route.

I am trying to order another copy of my discharge papers, or DD214. So far, all I find are private firms pretending to be official! I had such a form, had it laminated and foolishly gave it away to my home town library along with all my other documents such as my commission, college degrees and tons of books. Just Sayin...RJS

Robert - go to https://vetrecs.archives.gov/VeteranRequest/home.html. Won't take as long as if you do it via snail mail.

This is from TWRA:
Woods Reservoir - 5-25-23

Grass in the name of the game, Bass and Crappie all can be found along grass edges and along the rip rap banks. We found our better fish in 4 to 9 foot of water using Texas Rigged D-Bombs from Missile Baits and Tightline Mussel Crawler jigs tipped with Twin Tail grubs, Tightline Swim Jigs with Driftwood Swimbaits, soft plastics, spinnerbaits and A-Rigs.

Bass are on the move to their summer haunts. Best numbers came on a shaky head rigged finesse worm. Drifting/trolling with spider rigs for Crappie is picking up some nice slabs but you have to weed through the short fish. Water temperatures range from 73 and 76 degrees. Please wear your life vest all the time while on the water…

I have fished at Dale Hollow and Cordell Hull Lake without much success. I have ordered a Hummingbird Fish finder that I hope will help. I've also found that Center Hill Lake is about the same distance, but I have not been there yet. A couple weeks ago at Cordell Hull Lake I caught a small striped bass. I have a Bayliner Capri boat (rather heavy boat) so I cannot fish in shallow water, another reason for the fish finder is for the depth alarm among other things. I love Dale Hollow Lake the best for its size but not knowing how deep it was where I wanted to fish, my 100' boat anker never hits the bottom in a lot of places. I hear it over 600' deep in some places. I mainly fish with spoons, spinners and night crawlers. What can I do to catch more fish? Bass, Trout, Catfish and Bluegill would be nice. My favorite is Trout! I was born and raised in Maine, and I could catch trout hand over fist but here in TN, I suck.

MH - I'd recommend getting some good topo maps of the lakes you want to fish - you can usually pick them up at Walmart or other local sporting goods stores. These would help along with your new depth finder. You can also download the Navionics App if you are into that sort of thing.

I've been around the world too - before I was 21 actually. 16 countries, 1 war a few operations, and 20+ years of service and I have got to agree with you Oz - this can't end well unless something is done soon.

Who’s a good outfitter to take a flying fishing trip to Canada? And do you need a passport?

Check out Air Tamarac out of Clova Quebec. Great people and several different fly-in locations. You will either need a passport or I think it is called an enhanced driver's license/passport card. Last time I was up there was pre-covid and the last 200km was on a barely 2 lane dirt road. If you weigh over 185 pounds, the excess comes out of your 110 pound gear limit.

Planned trip to Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee for end of March. Any tips or suggestions as far as location, tackle, etc.?

IMHO, if you can afford it, I'd hire a guide for the first day if for no other reason than to show you where all the stumps fields are located. Very easy to take out a lower unit if you are not careful.
