I am mid 70s and was watching my 15 yo pup move.
We both are running down hill. Him faster than I. I am sure a lot of you been there and done it.
When the time comes are you/ did you go out to find another?
Would it be a pup or older? Who would take care when/if you you could no longer? I am sure that there are other consideration's.
What influenced your decisions?
Just brain picking.
Thanks Cal

Hey guy, I'm 68, and my wife and I just picked another golden retreiver puppy, we will pick him up on sept. 17. I also wondered if I am doing the right thing, we have had 3 previous goldens and I just could not go on without one at my side,on my lap,in my truck. They are the spark that makes every day a joy. The only thing I would say is to have someone to pick him/her up if something happens to you. This person should have some frequent contact with your companion.I have my son and grandson in case something happens to me or my wife. Good luck to you!!

How ya doin? I live about 1100 feet from the boat ramp on the crystal clear Wacissa river. I have only fished it a couple of times, my primary fishing is for salt water flats, grass, and oyster beds, for redfish, spotted trout, flounder, and if I'm lucky a triple tail. I live about 25 miles sw from Tally--politician city

I got two favorites, plain old Miller, "the champagne of bottled beers" and something I can't find anymore Heineken Dark, Which oddly enough tastes like prune juice to me, although with a kick.

Nice looking Mutton. . Good eating

Not muttons-those are Lane snappers, if those were muttons the fine would be enough to buy a small house.Last time I went fishing the minium size was 16 inches-which equates about a 4-5 pound fish.

Where are you on the aucilla?, I live on the wacissa which merges with the aucilla very close to the bay. You should be using a 1/4 to a 1/8 jig head with swim tail/shrimp and bounce on the bottom near grassy areas-watch for oyster bars when near the bars cast around outside and use a medium/slow retrieve. Fresh shrimp cast along deeper cuts next to the shoreline/oyster bars and suspended just off the bottom using a popping cork, or other float should deliver. I am available most of the time, contact me here and we can talk about what's going on.

IMO you are right in being upset, Leo. The officiating, both in college, and especially in pro football is worse than it’s ever been. These refs are graded on their job performance to see which ones get the post-season games. It seems to me there may be a shortage of qualified officials to even have a post-season!! There is no reason for the number of awful calls this year, with all the cameras, replays, and ability to challenge by coaches.
There were at least three calls in the Chiefs game Sunday that were missed that were replayed and/or challenged , and still got wrong; and this is a weekly occurrence!
I don’t have a solution to this problem, but sure think they better come up with one soon before the fans start ejecting the officials (physically).
No, I’m not an advocate of violence, but a few of the terrible calls this year, have already cost teams the game!!
No game outcome should EVER be decided by the officials. That’s not their job!

The biggest travesty I have ever seen was the national championship game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Miami won that game in the final seconds and the field was rushed with players and fans, even the Ohio state players were heading to the sideline-when approx, 1.7 minutes after the final play an official threw a flag and called pass interference. The field was cleared and Ohio was given the ball and 1/2 the distance to the goal-they threw a TD pass and won. There is no doubt in my mind that there was a payoff involved-does anyone ever check the bank statements of these "officials".The ability to cause the final score has become a huge incentive to make money, due to money from betting. The "official" said later that he "threw the flag after thinking if he saw pass interference or not" Its too bad no one thought to look into his personal life later too see if there was any personal gain or not.

Maybe you should change your attitude, I have a home in port Charlotte and Frank's does an excellent job educating fellow fisherman with his website, his free seminars and in person at the store. Don't know where you come from but I don't want to go there if that's the way it is.

I'm with you, there is always someone who wants to drag everyone down. I have found most bait shops are great advisors for fishing in their area, if the advice is good people come back for bait, tackle and more advice- and no I do not own a bait store. Growing up in Florida I frequented a lot of different tackle shops and found if you kept your ears open, between the employees and other customers you can learn a lot.

3/8 jig heads with a soft plastic 4" swim tail, or shrimp tail, you can go up in weight for more distance, or smaller to entice pompano that are nearer to the beach area.

Welcome to the long-lasting aftereffects of the worldwide Covid shutdown. I too am unsuccessfully looking for a jonboat! Most jonboat brands price themselves in a similar fashion. There is not a dramatic difference in price between the major, reputable brands. Some brands no longer sell the basic jonboat...i/e Bass Pro no longer offers the "topper" jonboat. Did you know that? You have to upgrade to the Grizzly with a $5000 plus pricetag. Ouch! Here is the deal...I have done extensive research on Lowe, Lund and Alumacraft and unless you are lucky enough to find one of these in stock somewhere, you will be forced to place an order with money down and wait at least 8 months to receive delivery. Order now and receive the boat in February! It is rediculous! So, those who have old, unwanted, rusty, delapidated jonboats sitting in the woods behind their houses are cashing in on the predicament and charging extremely unrealistic prices for their boats on Craigslist and Marketplace. My advice is stay with a major brand jonboat. Purchase a well known, recognizable brand with a good reputation. I have decided to purchase a new or nearly new jonboat and avoid the one like pictured here. Constantly watch the ads on Craigslist and Marketplace, etc. for something to suddenly surface, and with cash in hand, rush to buy it before the next guy gets there. Or be patient and wait until next February. Frustrated in Branson...

You can still buy reasonable jon boats from academy sports if you have them in your area, not all sizes are available. I believe their brand is alumacraft, and is a well made boat. There are other boat makers out there some will have some stock left, so if you're looking start calling around, they are out there.

Sorry hunter i didn't see where you are fishing. Yes that 40 schedule will work just find. I can imagine the dowel was a Capital " B " getting it in.

Would a 1/2" electrical conduit work? Or would that still be considered a lightning rod even though it would be in cased in plastic?

yes there would be a chance of electrical connectivity, and it also weighs a bit more, along with sinking if you lose your grip, the wood dowel provides a tiny bit of flotation.

I had to get 2 dowels couldn't find 'em in 20' lengths-besides-they were a b--tch to get in, it was a tight fit. I did use sched 40 in white, don't have to worry about real cold water in FL. One thing-this does not make a pole like fiber,it is not as stiff-but it works well.

I made one using a 20 ft piece of 1" pvc pipe You can find it that long at plumbing stores. I then forced a 3/4" dowel rod in to stiffen it. Worked pretty good but found cutting it down to 12' was optimal, I put a t coupling on each end and extended the "foot" on one end to 4" and 1" on the "handle" side. This makes an end for mud/soft bottom and one for hard bottom. I'm still using it and will probably make another for my other boat that I'm putting together now.
