The professional players are fined for their wrong doings on the court or field, why aren't the officials fined for their wrong doings.

Are they God? It's happening in all sports. When I was coaching wrestling and we have a bad ref, we would blackball him, and we never saw him again. We couldn't fine him, they didn't make much money, to begin with.
What can we do? Your thoughts, please.

They may have a union. I’m not sure about that, or maybe the teams coaches don’t want to stir the pot and the officials find out who complained. When I was Pony ball commissioner, and we had a bad ump consistently, I would let the Pony league officials know about it, and we’d never see that guy or gal again.

In Football they were supposed to have it all figured out Leo. The league office in NY was supposed to be overseeing all the calls on the field, and can override the refs at each game. Apparently they're no better at it than the zebras on the field.

I am not defending bad decisions, however, professional refs have to travel all over the country, live out of a suit case and make decisions quickly. remember most people are not down on the field close to what is actually happening. they are watching live TV and replays in slow motion. life does not move in slow motion. If God wanted us to be perfect he would have made it so, we are not and neither are the refs.

I guess I was just blowing some steam, I have been in their shoes and I have made many obvious mistakes. I have never had any shoes or tomatoes thrown at me. Do you, or anybody, know how to delete this post, rip?

IMO you are right in being upset, Leo. The officiating, both in college, and especially in pro football is worse than it’s ever been. These refs are graded on their job performance to see which ones get the post-season games. It seems to me there may be a shortage of qualified officials to even have a post-season!! There is no reason for the number of awful calls this year, with all the cameras, replays, and ability to challenge by coaches.
There were at least three calls in the Chiefs game Sunday that were missed that were replayed and/or challenged , and still got wrong; and this is a weekly occurrence!
I don’t have a solution to this problem, but sure think they better come up with one soon before the fans start ejecting the officials (physically).
No, I’m not an advocate of violence, but a few of the terrible calls this year, have already cost teams the game!!
No game outcome should EVER be decided by the officials. That’s not their job!

Yes, they have a union, but there is little accountability. Their performances are reviewed after every game and the best are awarded more and better games, plus post season games. How they still get calls wrong is beyond me, even with “big brother” in NY watching over and reviewing the calls.
The MLB Umpires are awfully good with the calls on the bases, but their ball and strike calls are questionable and inconsistent.
I won’t comment on the NBA, except they determine who is going to win.
Hockey Refs do a great job considering the speed of the game.

Leo, you’re allowed to blow off steam on the Stage Brother. It is a good question. Watching the BB playoffs I wondered how some of those home plate umpires could make such lousy calls over and over and not be ridiculed for it. I wouldn’t make it as a fan close to home. I’d be removed promptly.

I think our only chance of making the calls more correct & fair will have to come through the NFL League. But,,,,,,,,,, I have no idea what they can do about it. Hopefully something. Thank you guys for letting me vent, it helped, somewhat.

I like how you see what they called or didn't call an then go to Commercial. They're running alot of people away from watching the NFL

It is really absurd that penalties are not challengeable in the NFL as they are "judgment "calls. Seems the refs this year have no sense of judgment. I've seen several game outcomes decided by the refs calls or non-calls.

I read an article about how MLB might be going to a digital camera set-up to call balls and strikes as early as next season. I suppose that's doable for the well-defined strike zone that baseball has, but won't really help with any close plays at the plate, etc..... the "subjective calls", as it were.
RandyH had it so correct regarding the Chiefs game last Sunday. There were two helmet-to-helmet 'non-calls" that any idiot could see as "targeting", that didn't get a penalty called. One had them picking up the yellow almost immediately and declaring "no infraction".....and then BOTH PLAYERS WERE PROMPTLY ESCORTED OFF THE FIELD TO THE TENT FOR "CONCUSSION PROTOCOL" CHECKOUTS !!
WTF ??!!
Why even have a rule if you aren't going to enforce it ?

The biggest travesty I have ever seen was the national championship game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Miami won that game in the final seconds and the field was rushed with players and fans, even the Ohio state players were heading to the sideline-when approx, 1.7 minutes after the final play an official threw a flag and called pass interference. The field was cleared and Ohio was given the ball and 1/2 the distance to the goal-they threw a TD pass and won. There is no doubt in my mind that there was a payoff involved-does anyone ever check the bank statements of these "officials".The ability to cause the final score has become a huge incentive to make money, due to money from betting. The "official" said later that he "threw the flag after thinking if he saw pass interference or not" Its too bad no one thought to look into his personal life later too see if there was any personal gain or not.
