Everybody on this thread likes the Dexter or the Rapala both decent knives the Dexter in my opinion a little better. If you go on eBay you can find used boning knives that have been used in the meat cutting industry at a very reasonable price all different shapes sizes. The knife I like the best is actually a couple of different knives but the one for doing salmon and steelhead larger fish will be the Dexter or an old fashioned 30 40 50 year old kitchen butcher knife with the old fashioned steel that takes an edge real quick it's kind of a mild steel not really like the new knives that tend to be how shall we say flashy, if you can find one of those old-fashioned old metal butcher knives for your larger fish I would recommend them you can put an edge on them that you can shave with pretty quickly. I've used them on thousands of walleye and they always get the job done northern's, muskies all of those types of fish. Boning knives that you can buy on eBay are excellent for Bluegill Bass that type of thing

I would assume the people who selfish sense have done the research, but whenever I thought about buying any of it I feel like the guy that's buying some snake oil from a traveling salesman. After all when you use it did it work? So I guess it's kind of a if you have confidence in it after using it a few times and it seems to be working you can do a double blind test to check your opinion. When you're fishing for commis a bluegill and you're on a nest try fishing with it and without it see if there's any real difference. Other than that I don't think anybody really knows if you find out let me know LOL

I just bought my first boat and I am trying to figure out what fish finder to get. I'm looking at a helix 7 with gps and DI on the console and a helix 5 with DI on the bow. Thoughts and recommendations?

I have a 7 inch it's adequate if I had it to do over I would buy a 9in they do jump up considerably in price with Side Imaging it really kind of depends on what it is that you're fishing for. A d i is good for most applications, but if you're looking for walleye or schools of perch most times side images are invaluable. After all you could be 30 feet from a huge School of perch and never know it. I will be upgrading as soon as the money is available my 7-inch has not even been put on the boat did I fish Lake Michigan with but I have fished another one I have out of a smaller boat oh, don't get me wrong it's a good graph and it will do most everything you want in a perfect world I recommend the others.
