I just bought my first boat and I am trying to figure out what fish finder to get. I'm looking at a helix 7 with gps and DI on the console and a helix 5 with DI on the bow. Thoughts and recommendations?

If it’s in your budget I would go with SI on the console and DI on the bow. You don’t mention the type of boat, if it’s a bass boat I’d put the larger one on the bow. A 5” screen is small to see while standing on the front deck of a bass boat.
What GaryH said. The 5 is too small to read unless you are sitting right next to it.

I have a 7 inch it's adequate if I had it to do over I would buy a 9in they do jump up considerably in price with Side Imaging it really kind of depends on what it is that you're fishing for. A d i is good for most applications, but if you're looking for walleye or schools of perch most times side images are invaluable. After all you could be 30 feet from a huge School of perch and never know it. I will be upgrading as soon as the money is available my 7-inch has not even been put on the boat did I fish Lake Michigan with but I have fished another one I have out of a smaller boat oh, don't get me wrong it's a good graph and it will do most everything you want in a perfect world I recommend the others.
