The beach fisherman have been doing alright from Hatteras to Kitty Hawk with specks and red fish .I fished the other day on Outer banks Pier and did very well with the sea mullet on the end of the Pier. My friend Scott B. caught nice puppy drum ,bluefish, sea mullet and black drum in the surf end of the pier.

So for a bit of context I’m about halfway through highschool and spend pretty much every free minute that I can fishing, I’m also fortunate to be able to go to college if I want to. Personally, I don’t care all that much about how much money I would be making as long as I could live comfortably and do something I love (probably fishing). My parents seem pretty adamant on me going to college (again, I’m very grateful that I even have to opportunity to go) but I don’t think a lot of what I want to do after highschool requires a degree, so I’m just looking for some advice on careers in fishing or something related that might require some sort of degree or education, or just anything else that doesn’t, I just want to figure out what I wanna do early on, thanks.

Spent 15 years commercial fishing tuna ,sea bass, tilefish ,Im very good at all I have done, in todays world too many regulations .The government regulates everything now and makes it hard to make money. If I was in your shoes ,I would try to get on a charter boat as a mate till I made enough sea time get my captains license ,then work for someone running their boat till you could afford to buy your own boat. I am a 100 ton Captain but went into Law Enforcement after retiring from commercial fishing. I got married and had a child to think about so I took the land route and sure miss the ocean. so if you want a career fishing chartering is a guaranteed money job.People always want to go fishing but dont have a boat.

I used to fish all the time, like 3-4 days/week for 3-4 hours. Mostly wading in streams. I never had any type of pain or discomfort at all. I haven't been as much lately, maybe like 5x a year for the last few years.

I am experiencing shoulder discomfort/burning/pain after about an hour or so of casting. It's only in the left shoulder, which is the arm I reel with, and I only feel it when reeling. It gets to the point that I can barely keep reeling and really ruins fishing for me.

Any tips how to get past this? I really don't want to give up fishing. Maybe shoulder exercises? I don't know if it's just a muscle issue or something else

I always paid my mates up front but they always worked very hard for the customer .I always let the charter know that it was normal to tip the mates 20 percent of the cost of the trip. When they didnt I would cover it. Doesnt matter what you catch ,its what kind of day they the charter had we always made sure they had fun and enjoyed their day that was our job.

I believe we have all made some kind of mistake at the ramp one time or another. I had a 26ft. that refused to come off the trailer till I rebuilt the trailer rollers. Than I almost didnt make the water with the boat it started leaving the trailer faster than I was backing down. I was lucky I saw what was happening and stepped on the gas and reached the water with only a scratch on the rear bottom.

Electrical for sure. Compression test the cylinders. Inspect trailer leaf springs and shackles, the connections between the springs and the axle. I’ve had cracked leafs and broken shackles. Difficult to see clearly with boat on trailer.
Depends on your talents, if you like working on boats you can find an older boat reasonable and fix it up or if you not mechanically inclined buy as close to new that you can afford. Like what was said do your homework so your not burden with repairs.
