FYI, Spanish Mackerel are a prime surf and inlet catch in Florida in warm weather would be a good smoked candidate just keep fish on ice immediately.

We catch some in August and September. I I'll try it thanks

Thanks, looks good. We used to also have Atlantic mackerel smoked. I just don't hear of them coming close to shore anymore

Anyone know of any brine recipes for black drum fish. I grew up in south jersey. People used to smoke them for my father but not anymore. Thanks -jim

Winter Flounder
2 fish at 12 inches
Open Season: Mar. 1 – Dec. 31
Warm sunny days are best. Chumming helps. Chum log or catfood can.
Painted yellow sinkers or yellow beads above hooks. Small long shank hook.
Worms and small clam strips for bait. Nightcrawlers will work also but don't last long.
Have not fished for them in recent years they are pretty scarce. Last one I got by accident snagging bunker.

Thanks for your help. Pt pleasant today. After 3 tries

While fishing from a boat you do not need to cast, just drop the line straight down. You want your rig to be in the area where the chum is. You can also check out You Tube videos such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9hCnQE6jxI to show fishing from the shore.

Thank you , I will.

Sandy Hook ,Raritan Bay or Barnegat Bay are good locals for flounder ! Edge of channels or mud flats are come places to try. !
Don’t forget chum pot , use , clams mussels , place up current of boat . Bounce baits and use lightest sinkers that hold in current . Some add corn beads ahead of hooks , I’ve caught well with and without !
Good luck !

Thanks, seen people fishing on key port flats before.

You didn’t say from boat or shore ? If boat then soft bottom seems to hold more fish .
Also a chum u key helps greatly to draw in the fish .
Mussels are great bait as are clams n worms ! I’ve done just as well with mussels over a chum bucket !
If shore then areas of that offer mud bottom that u can reach are generally better !
I would use worms with a 2 hook tandem rig ! It’s a little tougher to locate decent areas from shore but ask at local tackle shops they can point u in right direction and suggest best rigs n bait !

Yes, I fish from a boat. We are going to try in shark river inlet and some places in sandy hook. One gentleman suggested a spreader bar. I ordered 3 winter flounder spreader bar rigs. Intrested in seeing how to cast the rig. Thanks for the advice. If we have some luck I will post the pics.
