Made a quick trip fishing north of Grand Isle on Sunday. Me and my brother only caught 16 specks, but they were all between 15” and 20.” All on artificial.
It’s great news for sports fishermen.
Hey John, welcome. I fished in Millers Lake a few times back in late 70’s, early 80’s. I do remember catching many good bass. We started fishing salt water out of Grand Isle, about that time and haven’t done much bass fishing since.
Melissa, you could also try the bridges leading into Grand Isle, with live shrimp or plastics on the bottom.
Wow, that’s a nice one. We’ve caught 2 more since that 1st one, what a blast. And yes, they are great eating.

Thanks Henry, it was a blast.
Thanks! I hope so, cooking the 1st steaks tonight.
I have to admit, this was 99% due to my son, Hays’ research and homework. All 5 of us on the boat had a turn reeling during the 2 hr fight. We were fishing on a ledge in 1500’ of water about 90 miles south of Grand Isle. The bait was down for only about 15 minutes when we saw the rod tip stop bouncing. That’s supposed to be one of the signs of a fish, so we started reeling. Sure enough, it took off several 100’ of line and we saw it jump a half mile away. We went nuts when we finally got it in the boat. It weighed 193 lbs the next morning after being on ice for 12 hrs.
Fisherman were me, my son Hays, brother Pat, and friends Micah and Josh.
Well, didn’t do much fishing, a lot of work to do at the camp. I did walk out to the jetties just past Sureway yesterday, and had a couple of hits. About the second cast straight out I hooked what I thought was a bull red. He just about spooled me so I put a little thumb pressure before all my line was gone and it broke. I don’t really care about catching those nasty big redfish, so I thought it was no big deal. I told my son about it and he thought it might have been a cobia. Water was pretty clear so I thought it surely could have been one then I got a little mad cause i should have had more patience. Oh well, I just brought 2 rods out there with no extra lures so I casted my other rod with a top dog. 3rd cast got a hit immediately and got cut off, probably a Spanish mackerel. About all the fishing on this trip down, back to working on the camp.
Welcome Bo, Fourchon you is right. Trout and redfish are in the surf. I’m heading down in the morning to do a little work on the camp and will try to catch a fish or two.
That was some very good ones Harris!
