Don’t go crazy over camping gadgets Get a Boy Scout Handbook. Fish with a simple two piece pole with a closed face spinning rig to start with. Small qt or sandwich bags couple of big lighters and a box of water proofed matches. Think double and triple use items. If you are going out for more than a day make sure to carry a light weight drinking water filter. Giardiasis will ruin anyone’s fun outdoors. If you’re drinking from a spring make sure the water has green in it. No life in water means poison. Enjoy the countryside and remember solitude is not loneliness it is nature’s company. Good fortune

The beach is plenty big for all. The swimmers 🏊‍♂️ are there to share the great outdoor experience of getting hooked just as you are. It’s kind of like masks in the store. I’m vaccinated but I wear one to protect the people who can’t get vaccinated for various reasons. Be kind to your neighbor. It pays off in the long run

I use small spinners Mepps, Blue shark , silver flat fish. I also like the #2 Power Bait shad lure. If bait fishing for supper I use large red worm 🪱 on a #8 or #10 bait holder on a two foot or shorter leader under a casting bubble or bobber capped of with one or two kernels of corn. Make sure the hook point is exposed to limit the bait sneakers. If you are after the big boys increase the hook size an use a larger night crawler in’s more corn. You will have to wait longer for a bite but the fun is relative to the wait. Have fun

I aways recommend to my grand kids to take along a field guide about the great world you step into when fishing. Yes catching fish is the major objective but by learning which bird 🦅 is fishing with you. What is the grass and other plants that are on the shore. What is the life cycle of that insect 🐜

If the organs of the fish are not torn and it has enough body fat to live on until it heals it could live for a long time. I have caught fish with old hooks still in their mouth. More common though is they end up as fish food.

Congratulations on making a happy kid. You probably created another fishing addiction. It is one of the few good habits we give to the next generation.
