My husband lost his tackle box and all of his tackle on a recent fishing trip. I thought I’d surprise him with a new one for Father’s Day. I would like to stock it with some useful stuff (our local lake has bass, walleye, catfish and crappie). What are your favorite tackle box items?

Here is a partial list of necessary items:
A variety of hooks
Small weights
Bobbers
Snaps/swivels
Soft plastic baits (worms, grubs, etc)
In-line spinners
Crank baits

This will get him started but he can let you know what he likes to fish with.

A filet knife, a scale and a multi-tool such as a Leatherman, unless he did not lose those. A hook remover such as a hemostat is useful, too.

I catch the daylights on bass with these....

1. #3 or #4 sized Mepps Black Fury rigged with single hook for a rubber Mister twister
(in photo with a bass in tow)

2. Rapala jointed crank baits in the #5 or #7 size range - Crawfish or silver minnow pattern as pictured

3. Storm brand Hot-n-Tot ...great on bass but also good with walleye in the same color scheme.

4. Need to also add a hula popper - coach dog is my favorite but they all produce if fish are present!

I run these lures more than anything in my box, although I always have fun trying other stuff when the bite is good and they strike at anything!

Good luck...and what a sweetheart you are to be thinking in this way! Lucky guy!

The top baits for every fisherman should be:

Spinner Baits
Top water Buzz Baits
Plastic Worms (also separate worm bullet weights and worm hooks)
Weighted snap on Corks(bobbers all 3 sizes small, med + lg)
Crank baits
Plastic Crappie tube + grub jig bodies, separate weighted jig heads(weighted head attached to hook= jig heads. As you would find there are few different weighted options sizes which allow the jigs to fall slower or faster depending on the weighted ounce of each one. Add a different variety of tube and grub jig body colors, my personal favorite grub jig is the Popsicle color with the chartreuse tail.
Top water stick baits
Weights (variety of different sizes)
Hooks (variety of different sizes)
Knife
Pliers
Bug spray
Sun screen

I assume that your husband fishes the Texas Panhandle Area. You may want to ask some of his fishing friends what he might like and use. I believe that "Coonazz " has pretty covered a very good start in a new tackle box..

Tips & Tactics;

Largemouth bass can be caught on a wide variety of baits depending on season and water conditions. The best season for bass fishing is spring when water temperatures reach about 55-60 degrees. Common fishing lures include plastic worms, spinner baits and crank baits. There is ample habitat around the lake so anglers have a lot of area to choose from.

The lake gets a lot of fishing pressure, especially during the weekends in spring and summer. Most of the spotted bass are located near the dam. To distinguish spotted bass from largemouth bass you need to hold the mouth closed and look at how far back it reaches.

If the mouth goes past the orbit of the eye, the fish is a largemouth. If it reaches to the center of the eye it is a spotted bass. Good catches of crappie are frequently found around the fishing pier and in flooded timber in the arms of the reservoir in the spring and fall. Crappie are best caught with jigs or minnows vertically fished around structure.

Everyone has given you great ideas.
To make it simple there are some new great backpack tackle boxes.
Then I would get your husband a gift card and he can get what he needs.
Good fishing to your husband and you

If he's a abss fisherman get him a few packs of senkos and some 4/0 EWG hooks. For walleye? Lindy rigs and raps. Catfish? Big Octopus Hooks. Crappie? Small Jigs and grubs.

"""What Is The Best Color Crankbait?"""

Bright Colors;

Because of this, bright color crankbaits excel for spring bass fishing. Chartreuse Black Back, Fire Tiger, or Chartreuse Blue Back are effective baits because the bass can see them in muddy water, and they can also imitate small, brightly colored baitfish like sunfish.

Spring Crankbait Colors;

There are more choices of crankbait colors and patterns than there are colors in a rainbow and each of them will catch bass at one time or another. But there is an easier way to pick the right crankbait color and that is to group them into shades and to stick with the proven patterns.

Red and Crawfish Patterns;

For springtime bass fishing, red and crawfish imitations should be in your box no matter where you live. They are excellent choices early in the year when the bass start to move shallow. While they are up shallow to spawn, the bass are also looking to feast on crawfish.

Picking a crankbait that resembles the typical shades of crawfish (reds, browns, and greens) will help you catch more spring bass on crankbaits.

Another benefit of crankbaits in these patterns is these hues will stand out in muddy water and, at the same time, they will produce in ultra-clear water. You can’t go wrong with any red or crawfish pattern early in the year, and this color pattern excels for shallow diving crankbaits that deflect into the bottom like the Bandit 100, also help the bait look like a crawfish rooting around.

Shad Patterns;

Bass eat shad anywhere they coexist and matching your crankbait colors to shad patterns is always a good approach - no matter what time of year it is.

Whites, silvers, and anything flashy that resembles a shad works wonders when it comes to crankbait fishing. It is always a good idea to have several shad-pattern crankbaits ready to go.

Bright shad patterns like white excel in both clear and dirty water, and the more translucent shades are best for ultra-clear water.

Reflective Patterns;

There are a host of chrome finishes available for crankbaits and they are an excellent choice since the flash imitates a baitfish. Another benefit to reflective patterns like Chrome with Black Back is that the shiny finish can help fish see your bait in dirty water.

Besides silver and chrome, gold finishes are another excellent option for spring bass fishing. The gold finish puts off plenty of reflection but also imitates forage like perch and bluegill.

Reflective patterns such as the Gel Coat colors from Norman Lures are also great for dark days with cloud cover or during low light conditions, as they will allow the bass to locate your lure better.

Bright Colors;

Spring is a time when water is high and often muddy for a variety of reasons. Spring rains, snowmelt, and other environmental factors can make the water the dirtiest that it will be all year. Because of this, bright color crankbaits excel for spring bass fishing. Chartreuse Black Back, Fire Tiger, or Chartreuse Blue Back are effective baits because the bass can see them in muddy water, and they can also imitate small, brightly colored baitfish like sunfish.

By sticking with these color groups, you can cover all your bases and have a pattern to match any situation.

Buy him the same kind of box that he had and put a $100.00 gift card in it from his favorite fish shop.
