Oh, near Austin at Decker or Lake Long as it's called, we used to go out on the boat with my elderly Dad and fish catfish with stinky "punch" bait. We were out there one time, and I hooked and landed a 40 lb. Buffalo Carp. We let it go. A little while later, my Dad caught one. Don't believe it was the same one. He didn't care for them, he wanted catfish for supper.

Yes, I've used corn before. I had a package of pre-made dough bait that needed to be used. On a small dock on Lake Georgetown, I threw a few dough balls in the water close to the dock. Didn't catch a carp, but I did catch a channel cat with 4 of those balls in it's stomach.

Cool! We fished Travis when I was a kid. Moved to Temple when in High Sch, fished Stillhouse, Belton some. Don't have much time to fish, have my own Lawn Care business. Like to go to the coast once or twice a year, Port O'Connor. Enjoyed the info from everyone.

Yes, I used to fish for carp all the time. Found that 40% Bran flakes, or other bran flake cereals are good baits. Just take a handfull, dip in water in your hand and make a dough ball. After it dries a bit, it makes a sticky dough ball. You can add flavors if you want, vanilla and others. Will also catch catfish. One time on Lake Travis in Central Texas, years ago, from a dock one night, I caught 24 carp from 4 to 8 lbs, and had a couple break my line.

Amen. I have a lawn care business. Much easier to find places when I need them. I like new subdivisions, lots of port-a-potties.

Okay, got ya. Turtles have been close to endangered, with commercial fishermen taking a toll on the population.
Stay warm.

Sorry to hear. We in Central Tx have had the same in most areas. Most have recovered some. Still some in Austin area w/o elect and/or water for a week. We were fortunate where we live, only 2 days w/o water, rolling blackouts for a couple. Got to 1 degree Tues am. We had 140 hours or so of below freezing temps. Praying for all Texans everywhere.
Be safe and warm.

Wow! Quite the gamet of opinions here. Some want to let 100s, maybe 1000s perish. Others want to make turtle soup. While others want to rescue turtles affected by the cold. And yes, the Texas coast is different, probably different than any other in the nation. The sudden cold snap in shallow water kills fish and turtles, and other wild life. POConnnor reported a fish kill, plus several turtles. Very small area, not the last report. I'm not a tree hugger, I hunt and fish, but what the people are doing, and I'm pretty sure most are volunteer, is saving wildlife that otherwise would perish by the 1000s. And our winter may not be over. Feb is usually when we get cold fronts moving in with regularity. Hope this doesn't kill a large amount of fish. I would have loved to caught some of those dead fish at Port O'Connor.

Hey, Bad'. Enjoy the info. Hope we can all get back to fishing when we can. We're in Central Tx, it was 1 degree, yes as in 1 above zero, you may have heard, Tues. am. Used to live in Dayton, TX, in fact 2 or our kids were born in Humble as I recall. I would call your area Southeast TX. South Tx is a whole 'nother country if you know what I mean. Ha! Be safe and well. cgap
