This is my first winter stay in Rockport, Tx. Decided to give saltwater fishing a go. Read many interweb articles and watched many u-tube videos to get a start at it. Caught my first saltwater fish on March 4th, 2021 at the new Fulton Pier in Fulton Tx. It was a 40" Black drum. Caught it on Gulp shrimp bites. Hope to find some reds, specs, flounder, and any other species available this month before heading back to Iowa. I will definitely be returning in November to spend another winter here in Rockport. Would like to hear from others with experience fishing this part of the Gulf Coast as to what, when, and where to fish and what the more common methods of catching saltwater fish are.

Welcome to the Forum, Jake. Check out the area around Port Aransas and Aransas Pass. Nice fish!
Thanks flyguy. Are there any special places ( piers, public areas, etc) to look for around Port Aransas and Aransas Pass??
Do you wade fish? I live in Rockport and fish a couple of days a week .I am not a guide.
Wow! That was a tussle and get him up on the pier. Way to go.
I see the pier net beside your feet without that you would have been saying good bye to that great fish. Looks like you have Black Drum part of your education down pat.
Yes it was! If the lady next to me and her brother hadn't helped I would have never been able to pull it up and over the pier rails.

Great catch for your first and nice pictures.
Go back to where you caught it and fish for its brother, sister, cousins, ...
Then hook up with Redfish for an outing.
