It is unbelievable the amount of practice you will need in order to do it correctly. Practice perfectly, one poor cast will spook the entire pod, any additional casts will be wasting your time. They may not be gone but they will not hit your fly.

Thank you for the input. Yeah it's an art really.

Ive recently inherited gear from my Dad so I'm digging into fly fishing for the first time. I'm looking for nearby spots to fish, what time, what flys to use, really any info you have for fly fishing central California. Thank you!

Definitely on the list. Thank you! Have you ever fished the light house or the Moss Landing jetty?

Planning a weekend trip to Santa Cruz, Capitolla, Moss Landing in February. Targeting Rock fish, Cabezon, Ling Cod, maybe even some crab snaring. Looking for info, hot spots, tricks and tips.

I will document the trip and post picks of where we went and what worked. HIT ME UP!

P.S. if anybody wants to join in let me know. Let's meet up.

Wow thanks for all that info! I will definitely take it to heart. Looking to avoid the crowds so we will be traveling the coast line looking for adventure. Might hit sunset beach in Watsonville for some surf perch. Looking for some rock fish hot spots also. Will definitely post up what we find. Cheers!

Yeah restaurants were open for takeout but had tables set up outside. Shops were open for the most part. There was actually a lot of people out and about. The parking lot by the rock was packed by the afternoon. Surfers and fishermen were out.

It worked out. Not bad inside the harbor.
