Soak in fresh water, drain and blow out then remove handle and spool spray wd 40. It should be fine. Shimano is a good tight reel.

It appears that many people are going to braid now with a mono or flouro leader; which one is best and whats a good knot to connect them?

The pump just running is not enough! Does it pump is what you want to confirm! And the only way to do that is to put water in the bilge and see it yourself . Good luck, be safe.

Jake I have to say that I agree with your first sentence;however Taking care of your reels is an absolute must as Huntem22 said However; iTS NOT THE NUMBER OF BEARINGS. That can really mislead you. for example look at the really expensive reels and what the gearing is made of. YOU WILL FEEL THE DIFFERENCE OVER TIME. Like you I have purchased many reels and was schooled by a pro. Im sure that there are some knowlegable pros on this site. There are some very affordable quality reels made these days you just have to do your homework.

Hello lads, would ball bearing be importante when im learning? Getting a new spinning reel, and i can see that big brands like Shimano or Penn, use 2 or 3 ball bearings, then you find others brand with 6, 7 and even 11+1 ball bearings. Is that important when im choosing a new reel for learning?

Thank you all for your help!

Great question . There are a couple of things to consider . Fresh or saltwater? Most good reels have more bearings that are made of stainless because they dont " PIT " once the bearings pit they start wearing out the race. Thats why if you do a lot of fishing ;its better to purchase a Good reel 'ONCE" rather than end up buying a reel every other year. Ultimately you actually save money AND not have to fight the reel as well as the fish.

Some boat trailers have bunks, and some have rollers. What are the pros and cons of each, why would you choose one type over the other? What are your thoughts?

Ive had both( small boat and 25 ft and in my opinion Bunk is the way to go. They are easier to launch and retrieve. You have replace rollers which are expensive. They wear out and fall off. if the bunks are aligned properly they will guide the boat up to the bow stop. There is a lot of hardware and maintenance associated with rollers.
Hope this helps.

Thanks SCLI I did the same thing that you did. I went to Coco beach and we must have caught 30 or 40 and they were all nice size but could not keep any. I dont want to make that mistake again. I use to go to the Grand Strand fishing tourn in Myrtle Bch SC and really enjoyed catching a variety of snapper and others but really enjoy the reds.

Im no expert & someone correct me if Im wrong. But Red Snapper Regs Change from yr to yr. Regs in State waters and Federal waters are different. Bag limits & size in FLA vary from coast to coast. Its best to check the Regulations in the State you will be fishing. I dont believe any Regs have been set for the upcoming 2021 Recreational season. I see you are from MD. You're going to have to venture south to have a reasonable opportunity to catch Red Snapper. We caught a few up to 25 lbs off the NE Coast of Fla last Sept. Problem was season was closed. My advice is to contact a Charter Capt in Georgia or Florida and ask some questions. My experience has been that most Charter Capts are happy to spend a few mins on the phone answering questions and giving tips. BTW: Even if the Red Snapper catch is limited to 1,2 or 3 per person. More then likely the by catch will contain a variety of other Snappers, Triggers and Groundfish to fill out your catch.
