Getting the new ( to me) boat up and running and wondering how do i check to make sure automatic bilge pump works without filling the bilge with water? I look on you tube and they have a million videos on how to replace a bilge pump but not how to just test it.

The only real way to test the float switch (if that's what you have) is with water. Is it in the stern?

Turn it on to see if you can hear it running.

I always put water in until it raises the float and kicks on. Only way I know of unless you can easily access and lift float and hear it running.

Water is the best way, lifting the float only checks the mercury switch. If the float is cracked, water gets in and it doesn't float.

¿What kinda boat did you get, D-25? If you can see &/or reach the pump, just lift the float/ your fingers and see if it vibrates/ makes noise... If it does, leave it alone right away. (Don't wanna go to running it for too long while DRY.)
¿Do you have a panel/ switches to be mindful of, or is it direct wired to the battery?

It should have an on/off/auto rocker switch on the dash. Add a little water to the bilge and try it.

Ok...yes..i can reach it...i do have bilge drain...it is in the stern...there is a switch on the dash but thats for manual on and off...i want to test its automatic setting...ill try running a hose into the bilge and see if it comes on.....just thought there was an easier way.

Either a hose or after a good rain is the only auto way i can think of.

Mine would kick on everytime i backed down the launch. Try that or tilt the boat as much as possible so you aren't waiting to long for enough water to activate the switch.
