Went fishing 🎣 this afternoon in 56 degree Carnegie Lake after the eclipse. Saw the eclipse for a few seconds while driving on the exit ramp. A guy in the parking lot showed me photos that he took. Amazing. I caught and released 8 bluegills, 4 white perch and 4 black crappies with Walmart red worms 🪱. Landed a bluegill and white perch double. On my last cast of the day, a large brown bullhead broke my 4 lb test line, then swam away with my rig when I lifted it from the lake. Saw 8 other fishermen. The first four caught nothing, then quit early. The young fisherman for whom I netted his 23” pickerel a few days ago arrived late in the day, fished nearby, then caught and released a 16.5” 2.38 lb white crappie with a little white twister tail jig on an ultralight spinning outfit. I netted the fish 🐟 for him again and took lots of photos with his camera. I now have a new friend who is going to follow me around and fish nearby so that I can net his fish.

Splain. You net the big crappie but fail to net the big catfish?

Better off buying the worms ahead of time being they can last a couple weeks in the fridge.
I want to get some meal worms to try under a bobber.

Walmart Now Delivering Live Bait Directly to Your Door (or Nearby Boat Ramp) By Dac Collins

The retail giant sells enough live worms every year to form a roughly 14,200-mile-long chain. Now, they'll bring those worms to you.

In a nod to all the early-rising anglers looking for a more convenient way to prep for a trip, Walmart will now deliver live nightcrawlers and red worms to your front door as early as 6 a.m. That’s right. Live bait.

The retail giant based in Bentonville, Arkansas, launched the new on-demand early morning delivery service in March. It allows consumers to order any of the tens of thousands of items found in-store with those items arriving as soon as 30 minutes after the order is placed. (Live bait can also be ordered as a late-night express delivery.) Walmart spokesperson Elizabeth DeLuca tells Outdoor Life that the service is already being utilized by people around the country looking for everything from diapers to drop shot rigs.

As far as the delivery options anglers have to choose from, Walmart’s two main live bait offerings are nightcrawlers and red worms. (Those looking for minnows, shrimp, shiners, and other live baits should still look to their local bait shop.) Some Walmart stores sell other baits like frozen shrimp, dough balls, and a wide selection of artificial lures, which along with rods, reels, and other tackle, can also be delivered to your door.

Worms are still the store’s mainstay. And perhaps not surprisingly, the retail chain offering ammunition, camping gear, and other basic outdoor supplies sells a huge amount of annelids. In a typical year, DeLuca says, Walmart will sell enough live worms to form a 14,200-mile-long chain if you laid them end to end.

The service is available at more than 3,000 stores nationwide, including all Supercenters. Expedited deliveries (between 30 minutes and an hour) cost between $5 and $10 depending on the location. And while most people will get their goods delivered straight to their homes, DeLuca says Walmart’s drivers can deliver to any valid address. This would include marinas, along with some boat ramps, parks, and other public fishing areas.

“So, if you are at a public boat dock and it’s on, say, 778 Smith Street, all you would have to do is go in the app and change your location,” DeLuca says.

She prefaces, however, that drivers can only come to locations on dry land, as Walmart does not currently have jet skis or jon boats in its delivery fleet. https://www.outdoorlife.com/fishing/walmart-delivering-live-bait/

Nice catching Frog. That Carp must have been a good fight. Thanks for sharing.

The carp fought hard. It went into a snag. At one point I was trying to break the line but he pulled free from the snag. Got lucky on this fish.

I understand the charges and fine for no license, but what does that have to do with catching a record fish.

No one said the fish wasn't caught. Just not sportsman's like.
How can they count a record fish caught illegally and by immoral behavior?

The guy only bought the license because he broke the record, otherwise he would still be fishing without one.
Poacher should have taken the high road.

State tiger trout record rescinded after investigation reveals angler caught fish without a license

MONTPELIER — When an angler notified Idaho Fish and Game this past May about a record-breaking tiger trout he said he caught the night before, a conservation officer knew something was fishy.

The Southeast Regional Office for Idaho Fish and Game issued a news release on May 30, 2023, stating that Kody King, a native of Montpelier, was due for some congratulations after catching the new “certified weight” state record for tiger trout.

“King was fishing his home waters of Montpelier Reservoir when he landed the 29-inch monster trout,” the news release said. “King decided to keep the fish, thinking he might well have a record. The fish weighed in at 8.47 pounds, easily beating the previous record of 4.8 pounds held by Gatlynn Mayes caught from Becker Pond in 2020.”

Kolby White, a senior conservation officer for Idaho Fish and Game, says that he learned of the record-breaking catch last year after receiving a voicemail from King on May 26, 2023, that stated he had caught the fish the night before.

“I forwarded the voicemail to our supervisor and he got in contact with (King) and told him that he needed to get a certified weight and get all the necessary paperwork filled out,” White said. “A couple days later I saw our news release and I looked at the picture that was submitted and it threw me off a little bit because I knew exactly where that photo was taken at the Montpelier Reservoir and it definitely wasn’t taken at nighttime.”

White said that based on his training and experience he believed the photo was taken sometime around mid-day or earlier and “that sort of piqued my interest because (King) said that he caught the fish at night.”

To investigate the matter further, White said he looked King up in the Fish and Game system and found out that he did not purchase a license beforehand and actually only purchased a one-day, non-resident fishing license around 2 p.m. the day he said he caught the fish.

Then White responded to the Montpelier Reservoir and took several photographs from the same location that King was pictured in his photo with the record-breaking fish.

“Based on all of my photographs, it was obvious that the fish was caught sometime between noon and 1 p.m.,” White said. “So, with all of that information we conducted an interview with (King) and eventually once we showed him our pictures he admitted to catching and killing the fish and then traveling into town to purchase a license after the fact.”

King was subsequently cited with misdemeanor charges of fishing without a license and unlawful possession of wildlife following the investigation.

King on Oct. 25, 2023, pleaded guilty to the two charges. He was ordered to pay fines and restitution in the amount of $983, had all hunting, fishing and trapping licenses suspended for one year and was ordered to make a public statement and apology that was printed in Montpelier’s newspaper, The News-Examiner.

“I am deeply sorry to inform you that the state record fish I caught was illegal, as I did not possess the necessary fishing license at the time,” King wrote in the public apology. “I understand the importance of following the rules and regulations that govern our community, and I am truly remorseful for my actions. I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere apologies to each and every member of our community. My actions were thoughtless and irresponsible, and I fully accept the consequences of my behavior.”

King’s record tiger trout catch was rescinded and the 4.8 pound record that was held by Mayes was restored.
