l I also usually fish in NJ. Generally, I take the party boats out of Brielle, Mt. Pleasant, or Belmar. I just thought Nantucket might present unusual situations such as depth/current to deep or strong where a medium action spinning outfit may not work, etc., etc. I'm hoping someone who fished the area might see my posting and reply. But want to thank you so much for offering all this input. Greatly appreciated.

Thank you. I've used white bucktails with Gulp many times. Does your buddy fish in the Cape Cod/Nantucket waters?

My kids gifted me two overnight trips in one week to go Fluke fishing out of Cape Cod. Going to fish in the Nantucket shoals. I don't get any reply when e-mailing the boat looking for advise on what gear to bring. Can't use the phone as I'm deaf. Can anyone suggest what gear I should bring for the area? looking for info such as mono vs. braid, what pound test, spinning vs. conventional, prefered lures (Gulp!, Spro jigs, ordinary bucktails, etc., etc.), and any "other" things recommended. Any and all replies are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello fellow fishermen/women. I'm a 72 yr old New Yorker whose kids gifted me a $ 675 gift certificate to the Helen H open boat. They will be footing the hotel costs as well. Great kids. My main interests are Cod and Fluke. I'm reaching out to you folks to see if anyone can suggest tackle specifications I should bring. I can't "call" the Helen H as I'm deaf and so far they have not responded to my e-mail requesting same. For Cod I would like input as to braid or mono, what pound test, what sinker weights should I bring, and hook size, As it's a real long trip for me as I have many health issues, I'd like to burn the certificate on one trip out there. Was thinking about booking one of their multi-day trips and then single trip(s) right after should there be any $$$ left on the gift certificate. I haven't fished for Cod in decades and my mind fails me in terms of gear and tackle used. Was also curious on diamond jigs to be used. I'm fine with Fluke tackle and stuff. Thank you all for any and all info received.

I agree - great people, wildlife, etc., etc. Told my kids to start saving their $$ as X-mas will be here before you know it. Hoping they'll send me back (LOL).

Hi Flyguy. No, sorry to say never did. I did go to Homer twice largely to check out their boats and to get gifts for the family. 2nd time heading back to cabin (again on Sterling Hwy - doing 55 mph) I came around a bend in the road only to see a grown moose standing still in my lane; jammed the brakes and luckily stopped maybe 6 ft in front of it. Thing didn't budge - just looked at me for a moment then slowly continued walking across the road. I casually turned to my right only to see it's twin nudging the passebnger window with it's nose! Came just short of a full blown heart attack! After what seemed like 15 minutes or so but in reality was more like 3 - 4 seconds, it just casually strolled in front of the car and followed it's buddy. Had no desire to visit Homer again after that, wanting to avoid that piece of highway.

Earlier this year I asked, and RECEIVED (thank you all again) tips and info about my then upcoming fishing trip to Alaska, all expense paid for by my wonderfull son and daughter as a X-mas present. Was 9 days in Ninilchik, AK, pvt cabin by water's edge, 4 charters - 2 halibut, 2-salmon, airfare, rental car, and even meals. And at 6ft 8" and about 280 lbs I certainly eat alot (LOL). Anyway, got back on 6/1/19. I was ready to go back from the time our plane landed at Newark (NJ) airport! Loved it, loved it, loved it! Over a 4 hr drive from anchorage airport to my cabin on a mostly secluded highway (Sterling highway). Passed many, many "moose crossing" signs. Also, living in NY I'm used to "entering falling rock zone" signs. In Alaska however, they're replaced by "entering avalanch area". Certainly keeps you awake (LOL)! Even passed a very large sign saying "caution....entering moose CRASHING zone" .....WTF???? Sites are unbelievable. From flying over acres and acres of glaciers when approaching Anchorage airport, to a multitude of sbnow capped mountains, to mama moose and baby grazing right in front of my cabin at sunrise. I found fishing regs very strange......halibut = allowed 2 per day. One has to be under 28", the other must be over 28". Four halibut are not only your weekly limit, but it's also your annual limit. And here's the weird one....no halibut fishing on Wednesdays????? Maybe it's the halibut sabath??(LOL). Got my 4, biggest roughly 25 lbs. Salmon = fished in the glacier-fed Kanai river. Average depth about 2 - 3 ft. fast moving water. Fished ibn over-sized skiff. Both days, no one caught any salmon. Not only my boat, but from what I could see on the 6 or 7 others in the area. Only fish I saw caught in the 2 trips, was "mine"!!! Caught a 27" steelhead which had to be released (not in season). Here's where the weirdness continues....you're not allowed to remove the fish from the water. Not even to remove the hook or take a quick picture! The Capt., who I was wondering why he was wearing hip-high waders, had to jump in the water to remove the hook without raising the trout. He measured it for me by moving it along side of the boat and taking note where the tips touched. He then measured the distance at 27". Biggest I ever caught. Anyway, recommend this to EVERYONE!! Prices are obscene however. Example = ordered an Italian sub for following days lunch. Cost = $ 14.95. When I got back to cabin and pulled it out of bag along with other items, I was stunned! Nothing special - few cold cuts, some lettuce, cheese and tomatoe. I actually measured it. $ 14.95 for a 7 1/4 " sandwich!
