My kids gifted me two overnight trips in one week to go Fluke fishing out of Cape Cod. Going to fish in the Nantucket shoals. I don't get any reply when e-mailing the boat looking for advise on what gear to bring. Can't use the phone as I'm deaf. Can anyone suggest what gear I should bring for the area? looking for info such as mono vs. braid, what pound test, spinning vs. conventional, prefered lures (Gulp!, Spro jigs, ordinary bucktails, etc., etc.), and any "other" things recommended. Any and all replies are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can't help you Emil, I'm on the left side of the country and I've never fished for fluke. I would think that if you don't bring your own gear that the boat should provide you with what you'll need. I'm not sure because I don't ever do that type of fishing either. Hopefully some more experienced east coasters will show up and offer some advice. We would love to see photos.

Thank you. I've used white bucktails with Gulp many times. Does your buddy fish in the Cape Cod/Nantucket waters?

If i were making that trip i would use a relatively short spinner that I could make short flip casts with. For terminal gear you can use Spro jigs in 3 to 5 ounce range with Gulp swimming mullet in 4 to 7 inch lengths. You can also use single ir double drop rigs with Gulp or strip baits. Good luck

l I also usually fish in NJ. Generally, I take the party boats out of Brielle, Mt. Pleasant, or Belmar. I just thought Nantucket might present unusual situations such as depth/current to deep or strong where a medium action spinning outfit may not work, etc., etc. I'm hoping someone who fished the area might see my posting and reply. But want to thank you so much for offering all this input. Greatly appreciated.

I was on a party boat once with braid on my reel. I took quite a bit of flak from the other guys (they ALL had mono) because braid wraps around other guys lines worse than mono.

My experience fluke fishing are trips down to my brother’s place in RI, fishing with brothers, nephews, and neices. We fish from boats, either type of rod/reel combo works as long as it isn’t ultra light. Probably 12 pound test minimum, 20 maximum. I’ve fished with a squid imitation fly with success, but those who tip their hooks with GULP have better hookup ratios. Live bait and cut bait could work, but then crabs rob you. Have fun and good luck.

Fluke guys use rigs made up with bright colored beads, small spinners, 3/0- 4/0 hooks.I've only drift fished for them. you can google "fluke rigs" and see what they look like. https://www.onthewater.com/10-of-the-best-fluke-rigs
