What length(6'-9') and what kinds of fish are you targeting? These are telescoping rods.
If interested, email me at almoy@yahoo.com and I'll have suggestions for you.
Cost will be between $20-$35 depending on length. I have a half dozen 9'6" rods that I
take with me to Fiji and they fit in my suitcase with room to spare. My target fish are
jack crevalles(pompanos), barracudas and snappers.
I've been using 20lb. and 30 lb. 8 strand white braided line going on 3 or 4 years. Bought it online. Check out Bass Pro.
Late last year I bought a Garmin Echomap UHD 74SV for $599 on a Black Friday sale from West Marine. You may have to cough up an extra hundred bucks, but it's worth it for what you get.
You should be able to find what you need from Walmart, priced anywhere from $50.00 - $75.00.
Good luck and good fishing.
I have heard of charter boat captains using WD40 as a fish attractant. They spray it on their trolling lures. Try it yourself and see if it works for you. WD40 definitely does not repel fish. Can't lose huh?
BK, so sorry to hear of your loss, mostly because of your relationship and close friendship to uncle John.
My sincere condolences to you and the family, and may he rest in peace.
I've always wondered about this. Only stripers I've caught were out of SF Bay., never from a lake or river. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in texture and taste between salt water and fresh water stripers. That is my target fish when in the Bay area in the Summer months. Thanks.
Audigger 54, I do the same. Weekends put too many boats and divers on the ocean. Fish are spooked or MIA.
Advantage to be retired, can go any weekday, usually Tuesday or Thursday. Give the fish a couple days to relax. Catches are much better.
Flyguy,
Salt water fishing is my cup of tea. I fish the low swells and winds, which means I make it out about once/two weeks.
How and what kind of salt water fishing do you do? Very interested.
Beautiful fish Jeff. Lots of good eats. Be very careful not to over cook dorado/mahimahi. Remove from pan when 3/4 cooked and allow to fully cook in plate for couple minutes. Very delicious and succulent this way.
Ricky,
Thanks for sharing. We're alike in that, even with a painful back, our passion for fishing still takes precedence.
You are a true fisherman!
Every time I return from a trip(weekly) I pay the price of lower back pain for the rest of the night.
But so long as I can still stand and walk, you will find me on the ocean, and the Pacific ocean is rough most times.

For around $40-50.00, you can get a good starter combo rod and reel set at Walmart.
Hey fellas,
I've tried to post photos from my iphone onto this forum but have not had any success. Btw, I am a computer illiterate. Would someone kindly outline the steps for me to do this? Please make it as simple as possible.
Thanks. Al
You taught this young man one of the most important things in life...fishing! Maybe one day we'll see him participating in our forum huh?
I troll with 4-6" mullet using a single hook for the head and a treble hook close to the tail. I slip one of those tiny rubber bands used by orthodontists(buy from Amazon) over the wire trace by the gill plate and one just above the treble hook by the tail. Mullet stays on a lot longer this way. You probably can do the same thing with cut bait.
