Well guys. Today was one of those days that's hard to beat. I suppose if the fish would have been bigger it would have been better but that's bout the only way I figger it.
Brad and I got out to the fishin grounds bout 0800. Third cast, fish on. It was nothing but UP from there.
By 0900 we had caught close to 20 fish. Shortly after 10 we had caught close to 40. And then we moved to the other side of the river/bay.
Started catchin right away over there. By 11 we had caught over 70 and we quit fishin at 1230 and we had somewhere bout 100+
There were at least 12 different times we had a double on. We kept 3 fish. A 20, a 21 and a 24 incher.
Brad said bout 1130 that the next keeper we caught we should probly keep it. While he was sayin that I land a 19 3/4 incher. I looked at him and said NAH, and threw it back. That was the last keeper we caught. LOL.
We probly caught maybe 15 keepers today, the rest were shorts.
All I can say is I'm glad tomorrow is Sunday. That's the only day I won't go fishin. I need to rest up again for Monday.
Well guys. Today was one of those days that's hard... (show quote)

Catfish breaks angler’s scale; might it have broken a record, too?

Michael Cuppett was fishing in a bass tournament with his father on Lake Sinclair in Georgia recently when he hooked into a huge fish that he fought for 20 minutes, a classic sign it was not a bass but a catfish.

“Every time we got it close to the boat, it would pull line back out and it would start once again,” John Cuppett told WMAZ.

Sure enough, it was a flathead catfish, caught on a plastic lizard tossed near a tree.

Once they got it into the boat, they attempted to weigh it, but the fish’s weight broke the scale. It was far too big for the livewell. So they took photos, tossed the catfish back into the lake and continued bass fishing.

Back on shore, Michael showed off his photos of the flathead catfish.

“My friends said that may be the biggest flathead caught at Sinclair, and one pulled it up on their phone and said the record was 36 pounds,” Michael told WMAZ.

The record is 36 pounds, 11 ounces. Michael’s catfish was estimated to weigh between 35 and 40 pounds, so it might have broken the lake’s decade-old record.

Michael, whose brother passed away from COVID-19 last summer at the age of 35, said Jonathan was looking down on him. He thanked him for the experience.

“He didn’t help us win a tournament, but he definitely threw a curveball at us,” Michael said.

Added John, “I imagine he was laughing, ‘You want a big fish? Well, here you go.”

Well guys,Brad and I went to tha Napa River this morning. Got to the fishin grounds bout 0800 and by 0900 we'd caught 30 stripers. We kept 2 that were bout 21 and 22 inches. We kept fishin tryin to catch one bout 26 or 27 but never did. By 10 we'd caught 50+ fish! Then they stopped bitin. Didn't catch another fish. We tried several different places but nothing. We did catch bout 7 or 8 more that were 22ish but we didn't keep any more. What a GREAT morning!
If we hadn't have hit it just after the tide turned, we wouldn't have caught any. The tide/water movement is EVERYTHING.

Mississippi River Blues, Chief Buffalo Nickel, Champaigne Charlie, and such….

By pure chance, along about 1982 or 83 I discovered Leon Redbone, who just happened to be on my car radio accidently. I was hooked because he sounded just like my father, who at times would sing those old 20’s era songs when we would be in the car driving home. There was an uncanny resemblance in their styles and such. I was hooked and began to buy up CDs of Redbone.

Sometime later he made a personal appearance here in Houston, so my wife and I got tickets and attended his performance. It was only after he passed away several years ago that I learned anything about him, where he came from or any details of his career and life. So, if you have never heard him, there are still CDs available. I cannot guarantee you will be affected as I was, but who knows? Just Sayin…RJS

I remember when in boy scouts they would not let us swim with cut off jeans due to small threads coming off and small bass eating them thinking they were prey and then dying on them!

If government wanted to get ahead of recycling and the whole garbage issue they could enforce cradle to grave liability to all products including the packaging.Make the deposit on the bottles/packages $2 not a dumb nickel..Make the grocery stores and fast food restaurants that profit off this pollution responsible like back in the day when you brought back to the store that sold you coke bottles for deposit.Recycling centers don't work. Ok now I'm vented...

Funny how noise can attract or repel fish.I clearly remember my friend 's fart reverberating in his aluminum boat then hooked up a whopper of a catfish.

few years back we built a "thumper" . small device that we could throw over the side to send out a sound during slack tide. used to bring the bluefish close to the boat. had fun with it for most of the summer then a shark bit it off. wasn't worth the effort to make another one just for bluefish.

Could you provide some details about making ,using thumpers?
