Is there any kind of bait that works for basic pond fishing (Florida) that I can keep in the fridge or something long term?

I like to go out with my son and toss a line in the little pond across the street. Our problem is we never have bait. I can get a cup of worms from the local sport shop and those work great but they only last a limited time before everything is dead and dried out. So when we want to go walk over there we can't because we have no bait and fishing gets delayed until I can drive to the store again.

Is there anything I can keep around longer term so we can just go out on a random Sunday morning and not worry about having to drive to get bait again? We don't do anything fancy, there are small sunnies over there and he's a kid who likes to throw a line in for an hour and that's it.

What could I use?
