S F Bay Area good shore spots salt or fresh water
Hi I'm not from that area , so not able to give you specifics.
I would think that at the bay with some mussels and a small weight you would find some biters though.
Water near rocks or sand.

Hope you enjoy your stay with us, John...and, welcome to The Fishing Stage.
There are many lake around the Bay Area. It’s a little early for trout, but that will change in a month or so. Black bass should be biting as winter sets in.
Striped bass and salmon are beginning their runs up the bay to rivers to spawn. Many Shore opportunities. Check with a local bait shops for current info., or other Bay Area fishing websites.
I used to fish the South Tower of the Golden Gate Bridge with squid chunks for bait. Always returned home with some good size perch. Nice eating when pan fried. You'll need 3-4 oz sinkers to hold your bait in the strong current. Hope you find spots in the bay that produce good catches. Tight lines and good luck.

Welcome to the Fishing Stage John and post some pictures!
John: grew up in SF. Best spots as a kid were Muni Pier, Fort Baker (Sausalito), S.F. beach at the end of Taravel (aka: Taravel Hole) when the gulls were diving, and Fishermans Wharf by the Red and White Fleet. But,I visited it a few years back and they have remodeled the area and I don't think there is access anymore (fished under the pier.) If you see kids walking around with fishing gear thats who to ask. Fishermans Wharf is built over the water.

Try Los Vaqueros reservoir in Livermore.
Way back in the 1970's we would fish in the sloughs at Redwood City or San Carlos. Hoped to catch stripers but mostly got small sharks and once a sting ray. Exciting and fun but catch and release. The area is so built up now I doubt that the public has access to it.
Did the same. One of the sloughs I fished ran from the Oakland estuary up to Lake Merrit. On the in coming tide stripers would head up the slough to try and catch smelt that escaped from Lake Merritt. A broken back Rebel was the only way to catch them.
Like I said. Water , rocks or sand. A tide helps.
When I was young I fished all over the area and I think I can count on both hands fishless days.

Welcome to the group, John! I live in Livermore, CA, which is the East Bay. I moved here in March 2017, so I am still learning the fisheries here :-) I like the East Bay Lakes - Chabot, Del Valle and Shadow Cliffs. I've been to Temescal as well. When they stock the Lassen Trout in the winter, that is the time to hit those lakes :-)
I have fished Pacifica Pier too. Perch and smelt have been caught there. I heard they catch some nice halibut as well. I've been traveling around fresh water lakes for trout and bass fishing (Collins, Almanor, Pardee, Camanche, Sacramento River among others). I mostly fish from a kayak, so I can't say where the good shore fishing spots are. Pick a location and Google it or check YouTube. That is how I have been learning :-)
